영문 초록

  The purpose of this paper is to analyze rhetorical characteristics of Eulbyungyeonhaeongnok with observations related to the techniques. Eulbyungyeonhaeongnok is the travel itinerary which includes a large amount of information and detailed description. The characteristics are shown especially in the technique related part.
  Hong Dae-Yong wrote down the advanced techniques of China and some western countries in detail which he had experienced through the Beijing trip.
  The technique related content of Eulbyungyeonhaeongnok corresponds to the essential observation. Eulbyungyeonhaeongnok is the most enormous technique related text of all travel itineraries. In addition, Hong Dae-Yong attempted to describe the object particularly and define it systematically by depicting the meaning and usage of the object in order to make readers understand. He observed, analyzed, and reported the efficiency as well as the operating principles of the object. We can see that he had a profound knowledge and a distinctive point of view about the techniques. He thought that the techniques would help to understand the world explicitly and make it possible for the people to have a prosperous future. This viewpoint was the background of his detailed and enormous technique related text. Hong Dae-Yong"s interest in the techniques reflected a special change which indicated the process of the academic study in late Cho-sun dynasty.
