영문 초록

  Because the Nakdong River has abundant literary meanings together with the historical truth of the war"s atrocity and the war refugees" crossing over it to the South, the battle line of the Nakdong River which had determined the war situation has become the main background of the novels. Geographically, the Nakdong River flows with the branch rivers from the upper parts of the river to the lower one([The Old House], [The Sad Encounter]). The publication date includes the ambience and the historicity because the story ranges from the beginning of the war to the year 2000. This publication date would become a memorable background ([The Confession of the War], [Backjin Naru]) for making the river as a place to experience the doubts about ideology([A Square], [The Heroic Age]), while the absolute ideology holds a dominant position([Friendship]). In addition, the Nakdong River is divided into an absolute place for experience; an ideological place, and sometimes a place which expresses the tragedy of the war through the traditional-cultural ideology([The Old House]).
  During the Korean War, the Nakdong River was mobilized to provide the ideological violence and cruelty as the source of the war and the war itself([South and North], [Duytkimi Naru]). And the victimized characters include every social class from the intellectual to the sailor. Also, this river has an important meaning as an original place of experience especially in the case of each individual writer. But the Nakdong River may not approach abundant concepts and meanings as a natural space. Seeing this river as nature is disrupted by the battle([Friendship]). It sometimes even omits the description of nature([The Square]), or suggest nature only as the meaning of a symbolic suggestion([The Old House]). It would not be exceptional that there are the characters having their roots in that river([Duytkimi Naru]). The characteristics are more evident in the novels which lay stress on the historical meanings.
  The Nakdong River obtains its fertile and strong meaning as the background of the novel through the Korean War, although, they have not achieved to create a various and delicate background of literature yet. In this respect, we need much more research studies of the Nakdong River in connection with the Korean War.
