교육담론에서의 남성성 문제

국문 초록

  오늘날 젠더는 모든 학문과 실천담론의 핵심개념이다. 젠더담론에서는 비단 여성의 억압과 차별뿐 아니라 젠더관계를 통한 다양한 인간관계와 존재를 문제로 제기한다. 특히 젠더의 사회적 구성과정인 젠더화(gendering)는 중요한 교육의 주제이다. 본 논문은 한국사회의 미래지향적인 교육연구 정착을 위해 남성연구의 성과를 수용한 젠더 시각에서의 교육담론의 시도라고 할 수 있다. 남성성의 사회적 구성과정에 대한 비판적 고찰, 한국 특유의 역사 및 사회적 배경과 지배적 남성성 성찰에서 출발하여 여기서 나온 사회관계, 인간관계, 자아 정체성 등 다양한 문제점들을 드러냈다. 유교 이데올로기에 따른 가부장 잔재와 군사주의를 비롯한 권위주의로 남성의 사회적 존재가 왜곡되었고, 잘못된 남성중심 성문화에 따른 정체성의 부실 등으로 새로운 가족관계나 직업세계에 적응하지 못하여 정체의 상실, 관계의 왜곡, 소통의 단절을 겪고 있는 것이 한국 남성성의 문제점들이다. 이를 극복하고 거듭나기 위한 평생교육의 노력이 절실한데, 보살핌과 돌봄을 추구하는 전인적인 공동체적 재사회화를 그 대안으로 제시해 보았다

영문 초록

  Today gender is a key concept in most disciplines and political discourses. Gender discourse raises questions not only about the oppression and discrimination of women but about the diversity of human relationships through gender relationships. In particular, gendering, which is the socialization process of gender, is above all a matter of education. In the West, educational research on gender discourse has gone beyond feminist educational discourse since the 1990s due to the influence of masculinity studies and gender studies. In Korea, however, even feminist educational discurse is still in its infancy. This paper attempts to provide a future direction for educational research in Korea from a gender perspective incorporating masculinity studies.
  Starting with a critique of the dominant masculinity of Korea within political and social contexts, this paper investigates the social and personal relationships as well as self-identity that this has produced. Because of patriarchy based on traditional Confucian ideology and authoritarianism based on military rule, Korean masculinity has been perverted into a destructive male-centered sexualized culture that prevents men from adjusting to new family or occupational structures and causes loss of identity and breakdown of relationships and communication. Educational efforts are essential in order to overcome these problems and become balanced human beings; some alternatives will be considered, such as re-socialization into wholistic communities that pursue caring and nurturing.
