영문 초록

It is said that Ford and Conrad wanted a New Form to give general effect. So in the Nigger of the "Narcissus", Conrad says that his task is to make you hear, to make you feel and 'to make you see' by the power of writlen word. Although the image is not just his own method to create something, we can guess that his usage of images is the aim to make you see. In this sense Conrad says, "I must speak in images." In his famous and complicated novel, Lord Jim, Conrad presents lots of images to make a story more realistic and effective. There are so many images. Of course, Conrad doesn't focus on just images. Through these various kinds of images, he displays human's morality and symbolizes the human nature's ambivaleoce. Thus, the study of this theme is to analyze Jim's ambivalence and tragic vision of life with the usage of images including Conrad's own making descriptive atmosphere. The study of this thesis is to analyze the Malow's exploration, and find out his real purpose of exploration on ship in Congo river. Marlow's exploration is like that it is to find out the silver cup of ancient Greek and Roman periods. After then, he recognizes the nature of human deep mind. His exploration eventually was the process to reach into the human nature.
