국문 초록

한국의 영어 학습자들은 교실 내에서 영어를 반드시 사용할 필요가 없는 현실로 인해 의사 소통 능력을 쉽게 획득하기 힘들기 마련이다. 게다가 취업이나 영어 능력을 평가하는 영어 시험 제도도 말하기 평가가 없는 TOEIC이나 TEPS가 주로 이용되고 있다. 따라서 한국 학습자들은 읽기, 문법, 쓰기 능력에서는 외국어로 영어를 배우는 다른 나라들에 뒤지지 않지만, 말하기 능력은 영어 학습에 투자한 시간에 비해 뒤지기 마련이다. 이를 해결하는 한 방안으로 필자는 CLT 교수법의 필요성을, 그리고 CLT 교수법을 영어 교육에 사용하기 위해 한국 영어 교육 여건이 처해 있는 문제점들을 짚어보고 이를 어떻게 해결할 지를 교육자들의 노력과 교육 관련자들의 노력으로 나눠 분석하였다. 게다가 필자가 수학한 미국의 IUP 에서 10명의 설문자들을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 이 이론을 뒷받침하고 있다. 한국 학습자들의 자세와 교육 여건이 이에 못 미친다는 점을 인정하면서, 조속히 듣기, 말하기, 쓰기, 읽기가 골고루 학습되는 교육 환경을 만드는 것이 영어 교육자의 책임이라 생각된다.

영문 초록

Due to the lack of the necessity of using English in the classrooms, Korean English learners are not easy to acquire the ability to speak English. To select the talented people or students, there are the exams without speaking tests such as TOEIC, TEPS in Korea. Therefore, despite their good ability in grammar, reading, writing, Korean English learners are inclined to be inferior to English learners of other countries in speaking ability. I research how the Communicative Language Teaching (CLl) can be implemented in English classrooms of Korea, according to the necessity of acquriring the communicative ability of English learners, and the change of English education. My thesis is supported by the interviews with 10 ex-teachers who are studying in IUP, PA I know the negative attitude of Korean learners and the insufficient environments of school. I think it is English educators' responsibility to make Korean English learners learn English in the environments where they can effectively learn all aspects of English.
