추사 김정희의 인간관과 교육과정론 ― 「인재설」과 「적천리설」을 중심으로 ―

국문 초록

본 연구는 조선 후기의 대학자인 추사 김정희(1786-1856)의 인간관과 교육의 과정을 고찰한 것이다. 특히 「인재설」과 「적천리설」에 나타난 인간관과 학문관을 중심으로 교육관을 살펴보았다. 추사는 「인재설」에서 인간의 자질은 평등하다고 지적하면서도 개인간의 차이를 인정하고 있다. 인간마다 다른 자질은 환경과 교육에 의해 바뀔 수 있으므로 교육 환경은 매우 중요하다. 그렇다고 하더라도 학문은 궁극적으로 주체적인 힘에 의해 자주적으로 진행해야 진정한 것이라고 주장한다. 또한 추사는 「적천리설」에서 학문의 과정을 천리 길을 가는 사람에 비유하여 설파하고 있다. 먼길을 가기 위해서는 먼저 길을 아는 사람의 안내를 받아야 한다고 강조하고 스승의 중요성을 제시한다. 동시에 의구심이 생기는 일에 대해서는 끊임없이 물어서 스스로 찾아갈 수밖에 없다는 공부의 태도를 지적하였다. 이는 다양한 분야에 대해 널리 배우는 동시에 의심나는 것은 물어서 자기 확신을 가졌을 때, 학문과 삶이 완성된다는 사고를 보여준다. 여기에서 추사의 교육 태도와 인간 교육의 가능성, 방법론적 측면을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the thoughts of the Great Choo-Sah, Jung Hee Kim in the late Chosun in relation to the process of education and views on human being. In doing so, I reviewed especially what counts as the human being and education from his works called “Injaeseol” and “Jeokchunliseol.” From the book, “Injaeseol”, he argued all the people are equal in terms of quality and at the same time pointed out the differences among individuals. This difference can be changed depending on pedagogical efforts and educational environment that is crucial to learning. Notwithstanding this point, Choo-Sah reminded us that it should be authentic when investigation and education is made from voluntary and internal motivation. From the book, “Jeokchunliseol”, he explains the process of education using the “a long way to walk” metaphor In the metaphor, a pupil who is hoping to take a long trip should be guided by a experienced mentor. At the same time, a pupil has to keep going with internal motives to learning and interrogate the unquestioned truth. This emphasizes the ways in which a pupil's life and education becomes complete when learning various areas and attaining self-assurance reaching to the authentic knowing. This views epitomizes Choo-Sah's attitude of education and capacity of pedagogy and its methodological aspect.
