一蠹 鄭汝昌의 삶을 통해 살펴본 올바른 孝道

국문 초록

본 논문은 文廟에 配享된 18인 중 한 사람이자 金宏弼·趙光祖·李彦迪·李滉 등과 함께 東方五賢으로 불리는 一蠹 鄭汝昌의 삶을 들여다봄으로써, 오늘날까지도 오해되고 있는 효도의 진정한 의미를 고찰하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 정여창이 이해한 ‘正名으로서의 효도’에 대해 살펴보았다. 정여창은 자신을 효자로 자처하지 않았으며, 효자가 아닌 자신이 효행천거로 관직에 나간다면 실제와 명분이 어긋나므로 천거에 의한 임용을 사양했다. 정여창은 효도를 결코 수단으로 이해하지 않았다. Ⅲ장에서는 茶山 丁若鏞이 비판한 ‘수단으로서의 효도’에 대해 고찰하였다. 정약용이 ｢孝子論｣과 ｢烈婦論｣에서 비판한 바에 따르면, 당시 일부 사람들은 자신과 부모를 효자로 자처하며, 부모를 효자로 천거함으 써 자신이 부역을 면제받기를 원했다. 그들은 효도를 수단으로 이해했으며, 효도의 실제가 없는데도 불구하고 효행으로 이득을 얻기를 취했다. Ⅳ장에서는 효행상을 대학입학의 수단으로 삼는 일각의 행태를 비판적으로 고찰하며, 정여창의 효도가 지니는 현재성을 확인하였다

영문 초록

This paper examines the true meaning of filial piety, which is misunderstood even today, by looking into the life of Ildu Jeong Yeo-chang (1450-1504). In Chapter II, we looked at the filial piety in the correct sense that Jeong Yeo-chang understood. Jeong Yeo-chang did not call himself a filial son, and thought that it would be incorrect if he was recommended to a government office because he was not a filial son. Accordingly, he refused to be appointed to public office given to those who practiced filial piety. Jeong Yeo-chang never understood filial piety as a means. Chapter III examines Dasan Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836)'s criticism of the use of filial piety as a means of success. According to Jeong, some people at the time rumored to be good at filial piety and wanted to exempt themselves from servitude by recommending their parents as excellent in filial piety. They understood filial piety as a means of doing so and sought to profit from it without doing so. Chapter IV criticized the problems of modern Korean society using filial piety as a means of entering university, and confirmed that Jeong Yeo-chang's filial piety is still meaningful today.
