국문 초록

죽음은 인간의 생애에서 누구나 필연적으로 직면해야 할 현상이다. 본 연구는 독거노인의 고독사를 접한 생활지원사의 경험을 탐색하여 그 본질적 의미를 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법을 활용하여 이해하는 데 목적을 두었다. 자료수집을 위해 독거노인의 고독사를 경험한 생활지원사 5명을 연구참여자로 엄선하였으며, 각각 3회기 씩 일대일 대면으로 심층면담했다. 연구결과, 독거노인의 고독사를 접한 생활지원사 경험은 최종적으로 ‘고통을 넘어선 인생의 깨달음’으로 분석되었다. 연구 주제와 연관성이 있는 125개의 의미단위를 찾아 정리하였고 이를 순환분석과정을 통해 11개의 하위주제와 4개의 상위주제로 범주화하였다. 그 구성요소로는 ‘종착역에 다다른 인생과의 조우’, ‘처참한 주검의 잔상 앞에 고통을 추스름’, ‘이별을 겪으며 발견하는 나의 가치’, ‘아픔을 넘어 회복으로’의 4개의 상위주제가 도출되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 생활지원사의 고충을 살펴 지원체계를 미리 구축하고 다각적 지원의 방법을 모색하고자 사회복지실천 현장에 대한 몇 가지 실천적 논의점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Death is an inevitable phenomenon that every human being must face. This study aimed to explore the experiences of life support workers who encounter the lonely death of elderly people living alone and to understand its essential meaning using Giorgi’s phenomenological research method. To collect data, five life support workers who experienced the lonely death of elderly people living alone were selected as participants, and three in-depth one-on-one interviews were conducted with each participant. The results of the study showed that the experiences of a life support worker who encountered the lonely death of elderly people living alone were categorized as “realization of life beyond pain.” One hundred and twenty-five semantic units related to the research topic were identified and categorized into 11 sub-topics and four topics through a cycle analysis process. The four topics were: “encountering a life that has reached its end of the invasion,” “pain in front of the afterimage of a terrible carcass,” “my value found through separation,” and “to recover beyond pain.” Based on these results, several practical discussions in the field of social welfare were presented to examine the grievances of life support workers, establish a support system in advance, and seek ways to provide multilateral support.
