국문 초록

도덕과교육은 도덕교육이 수업을 통해서 이루어질 수 있고, 또 이루어져야 한다는 소박한 믿음을 바탕으로 한다. 그러나 콜버그의 도덕발달론과 그것이 도덕과교육에 미친 영향이 여실하게 예시하듯이, 오늘날 도덕과교육에 영향을 미치고 있는 다양한 이론적 접근들은 성격상 도덕과교육과 구분된다는 태생적 한계를 가지고 있다. ‘성격상’ 구분된다는 점은 다양한 이론적 접근들이 도덕적 지식을 전달하는 도덕과 수업 사태를 염두에 두고 그것을 이론적으로 설명한 것이 아니라는 점을 뜻한다. 실지로 오늘날 도덕과교육은 도덕적 지식을 전달하는 사태에 응분의 관심을 기울이지 않는 이론적 접근에 영향을 받는 경향이 있다. 이러한 경향은 도덕적 지식의 전달이라는 도덕과 수업의 고유한 과업을 각각의 접근이 내어놓은 교육적 처방으로 대치하게 되는 결과를 낳았다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 ‘수업이란 무엇인가’ 하는 질문에서 출발하여 수업의 개념을 충족시키는 도덕과교육은 무엇이며, 또 그것은 어떤 모습을 하고 있는가 하는 점을 탐색하는 데 주안점을 둔다. 수업의 개념, 그것도 교육적인 의미에서의 수업의 개념을 충족시킨다는 말은 ‘가치 있는 것’을 전달하되, ‘인지적 변화’가 수반되어야 하며, ‘그 과정이 윤리적’이어야 한다는 교육의 개념적 기준을 충족시킨다는 말로 이해되어야 한다. 특히, 부정적 수업은 교육의 개념을 충족시키는 도덕과 수업이 어떠한 모습을 해야 하는가를 충실히 예시한다는 점에서 주목의 대상이 된다.

영문 초록

Moral education as a subject is based on the simple belief that moral education can and should be achieved through instruction. However, as Kohlberg’s moral development theory and its influence on Moral Education clearly illustrate, the various theoretical approaches that are influencing Moral Education today have inherent limitations that distinguish them from Moral Education. The distinction ‘in nature’ means that the various theoretical approaches are not theoretical explanations of the moral instructional activity that communicates moral knowledge. Today’s Moral Education tends to be influenced by theoretical approaches that don’t pay due attention to the situations that communicate moral knowledge. This trend resulted in the task of moral instructional activity being replaced by the educational prescriptions provided by each approach. Based on this idea, this study starts from the question ‘What is instruction?’ and focuses on exploring what Moral Education is that satisfies the concept of instruction and what it looks like. Satisfying the concept of instruction should be understood as meeting the conceptual criteria of education, which include communicating ‘something of value’, causing ‘cognitive change’, and ‘the process must be ethical’. In particular, negative instruction is noteworthy in that it faithfully exemplifies moral instructional activity that satisfies the concept of education.
