초등교사의 다문화교육 인식과 실행에 관한 사례 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 현장에 있는 초등교사의 다문화교육 인식과 실행, 그리고 그 과정에 영향을 미치는 장애요인을 심층적인 사례 연구를 통해 파악하고 다문화교육에 대한 시사점을 고찰해 보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 다문화아동을 담임하고 있는 2명의 초등교사를 관찰 및 면담하였으며, 그 학급의 다문화아동과 일반아동도 관찰과 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 다문화교육에 대한 교사들의 인식은 다문화학생을 주류 문화에 동화시키는데 큰 비중을 두고 있는 초보적인 단계에 머물러 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 다문화교육에 대한 교사의 인식과 실행의 모습은 다문화아동과의 경험이 증대함에 따라 긍정적으로 변화되었으나, 시간부족, 교사의 전문성 부족, 학부모의 무관심, 행정지원 체제의 미비 등의 장애요인에 의해 좌절되기도 하였다. 그러므로 예비교사와 현직교사의 인식과 실행을 변화할 수 있는 다문화교육 교육과정과 연수를 체계적으로 이수할 수 있는 제도의 도입이 필요하다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine teacher's perception, practices of multicultural education, and their hindrance factors. For this study, the following questions have been determined. First, what is the teacher's perception of multicultural education? Second, what are the teacher's practices of multicultural education? Third, what are obstacles of teacher's perception and practice on multicultural education? To solve the study problems, this study selected two elememtary school' teachers with their children. In-depth interview and observation were used to look closely into their perception and practices on the multicultural education. As a result, the teachers agree that multicultural education is very important in the development of children, but the lack of knowledge from the teachers prose as a problem. Second, the experiences of their being exposed to the students from multicultural family played a positive role in multicultural education. Third, the obstacles to the multicultural education influenced on teacher's practices and perception. It is suggested that taking the classes of multicultural education for pre-service and in-service teachers is important.
