수학 선행학습에 대한 언론의 토픽 변화 탐색

국문 초록

이 연구는 수학 선행학습에 관한 언론의 토픽 변화를 탐색하기 위하여 NetMiner 4.0에서 제공하는 News Data Collector를 이용하여 2004년부터 2023년까지 9개 언론사의 기사 본문을 수집하여 분석하였다. 수집된 기사들은 선행학습 금지법이 시작된 2014년을 기준으로 10년 단위로 구분하여 중심성 분석을 실시하고, 동일 기간으로 토픽 모델링을 각각 실시하였다. 또한, 코로나 이후의 변화된 수학 선행학습에 대한 변화를 관찰하기 위해 2022년과 2023년은 하나로 묶어 별도의 토픽 모델링을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 중심성 분석에서는 양 기간 모두 ‘학교’, ‘수학’, ‘선행’, ‘과정’, ‘사교육’, ‘학원’ 등이 높은 순위와 영향력을 보였고, 2014년 기준으로 ‘초등’의 빈도 및 4가지 중심성 지표는 크게 오르고 ‘중학교’는 크게 내려왔다. ‘대학’도 선행학습 금지법이 시행된 2014년부터 여러 중심성 지표 순위에서 상승세를 보였다. 둘째, 토픽 모델링 결과 선행학습금지법 이전인 2004년부터 2013년까지 10년 동안은 영재교육, 사교육비, 초등 선행학습, 한국교육 이슈, 대학입시 등 5개의 토픽이 나타나고, 선행학습 금지법 이후인 2014년부터 2023년까지는 수준별 교육, 선행학습 금지, 한국교육 이슈, 대학입시, 사교육비 등 5개의 토픽이 나타났다. 코로나 이후 양상 분석을 위해 별도 실시한 2022년과 2023년의 토픽 모델링 결과에는 매번 등장하던 ‘한국교육 이슈’, ‘대학입시’ 외에 2014년 이전에 나타났던 ‘초등 사교육’이 다시금 토픽으로 등장하였다. 본 연구의 함의가 논의되었다.

영문 초록

This study collected a body of articles from nine media companies from 2004 to 2023 using the News Data Collector provided by NetMiner 4.0 to explore changes in media topics on math prior learning. As of 2014, when the Pre-Learning Prohibition Act began, the collected articles were divided into 10-year centrality analysis, and topic modeling was conducted during the same period. In order to observe changes in mathematics prior learning after COVID-19, separate topic modeling was conducted by uniting only 2022 and 2023. As a result of the study, in the centrality analysis, 'school', 'mathematics', 'precedence', 'course', 'private education', and 'cram school' showed high ranking and influence in both periods, and as of 2014, the frequency and four centrality indicators of 'elementary' increased significantly, while 'junior high school' fell significantly. ‘Universities’ have also seen an upward trend in the rankings of several centrality indicators since 2014, when the ban on prior learning came into effect. Second, from 2004 to 2013, there were five topics, including gifted education, private education expenses, elementary prior learning, Korean education issues, and college entrance exams. From 2014 to 2023, after the Prohibition of Prior Learning Act, five topics appeared: education by level, prohibition of prior learning, Korean education issues, university entrance exams, and private education costs. In the topic modeling results of 2022 and 2023, which were conducted separately to analyze the post-corona pattern, in addition to the 'Korean education issue' and 'university entrance examination' that appeared every time, 'elementary private education' that appeared before 2014 appeared again as a topic. The implications of this study were discussed.
