배경지식과 학습재료가 독해에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

배경지식온 거의 모든 학문영역에서 과제수행에 관여하는 가장 중요한 요인 중 하나로 꼽히 고 있다(Dochy, Segers, & Buehl, 1999 참조)． 이 연구는 영 역 -구체적 지식이 독해에 미치는 영향력이 교재의 주제 영역에 따라 달라지는 양상을 검토하였다. 영역 -구체적 지 식( 빈약_풍부)과 교재의 주제영역(생물학-지리학)을 독립변인으로 조작하고 이해 검사점수를 종속 측정치로 설정한 실험을 80 명의 고등학생을 참여자로 실시하였다. 생물 교재의 경우, 영역 -구체적 지식이 풍부한 집단의 이해 검사점수가 영역 -구체적 지식이 빈약한 집단에 비해 뚜렷하게 높았다. 그러나 지리 교재의 경우에는 영역 -구체적 지식의 빈부에 다른 따른 이해 검사점수 차이가 두드러지지 않았다. 영역-구체적 지식의 영향력이 주제 영역에 따라 달라진다는 뜻이다.

영문 초록

It has been well-known that background knowledge is one of the most significant factors affecting comprehension (see Dochy, Segers, & Buehl,1999). This study examined the effects of domain-specific knowledge and text-content on reading comprehension. Eighty high school students participated in the study were equally divided into two groups with respect to their preferred subjects―either Biology or Geography. From each group, half the students read a text extracted from their preferred subject (this group was considered to be a knowledge rich group) and the remaining half read a text extracted from the subject that the other group preferred (this group was considered to be a knowledge poor group). Of the two groups who read Biology text, knowledge rich group outperformed knowledge poor group on a reading comprehension test administered immediately after reading the text. However, of the two groups who read Geography text, there was no difference found between knowledge poor group and knowledge poor group. The results suggest that the effect of domain-specific knowledge will be found in highly specialized domains such as natural sciences and law.
