연관어 네트워크 분석기법을 통해 본 구비설화 전승 양상의 변화(Ⅰ) -『한국구비문학대계』와 『증편 한국구비문학대계』의 비교를 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 『한국구비문학대계』와 『증편 한국구비문학대계』 를 대상으로 시간이 흐름에 따라 구비설화의 전승이 어떠한 방향으로 변화하였는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 ‘연관어 네트워크 분석기법’을 활용하여 이 두 자료집에 실린 이야기들의 전승 양상을 시각화하고 이를 서로 비교하였다. 그 결과 두 자료집의 네트워크 그래프는 핵심 노드를 중심으로 하는 연결망을 기준으로 네 영역으로 나눌 수 있었는데 본고에서는 이를 ‘딸’ 유형, ‘며느리’ 유형, ‘신이담’, ‘유래담’으로 유형화하였다. 각 유형들을 중심으로 살펴본 전승 양상의 변화는 다음과 같다. 먼저 ‘딸’ 유형은 계층성이 이야기적 쾌락의 요인이 되는 이야기, 혼인을 통한 남성과의 관계성 안에서 존재가 증명되는 이야기들보다는 <친정 명당 뺏은 딸>, <친정 온 아버지 박대한 딸>과 같이 부의 획득을 위해 친정에 맞서는 ‘주체적 면모가 부각되는 여성’ 이야기들의 전승이 강화된 모습을 보였다. ‘며느리’ 유형은 ‘현실을 반영하는 차원으로 전승이 변화’하고 있음이 확인되었다. 즉 자식의 죽음 앞에서도 오로지 효를 강조하는 ‘극단적 효행담이 약화’되고 <지렁이국 끓여 봉양한 며느리>와 같은 ‘현실적 효행담이 증가’하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 갓시집온 며느리와 시부모 사이에 발생한 갈등 상황을 조율하는 이야기들이 덜 구연되는 것으로 드러났는데 이는 점차 함께 거주하지 않음으로써 서로의 관계성에 대한 관심이 축소된 상황을 반영하는 것이다. 한편 ‘호랑이’, ‘도깨비’, ‘귀신’을 소재로 하는 신이담의 경우는 ‘체험담’의 형태로 구연되는 유형들의 전승이 강화되고 ‘귀신을 태운 택시기사’와 같은 ‘도시괴담’이 독립된 유형으로 포섭된 모습을 보였다. 마지막으로 ‘유래담’은 ‘지명 유래담’의 경우 전승이 더욱 강화되는 한편 ‘현풍 곽씨’ 설화처럼 효행과 열행을 수행한 인물 내력담의 전승은 약화되고 명당으로 발복한 시조 이야기는 관심 있게 구연된 경향을 보였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the direction in which the transmission of oral tales has changed over time, targeting 『Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』 and 『Complementary Edition of Comprehensive Korean Oral Literature』. Associative word network analysis was used to visualize and compare the transmission aspects of the stories in these two data collections. The resultant network graphs for the two data collections were divided into four areas based on the core nodes. Identified changes in transmission patterns, with a focus on each type, are as follows. Firstly, the “daughter” type has a “subjective aspect” where the daughter fights with her parents for the acquisition of wealth, such as in the “The Daughter Who Was Stolen from Her Parents' Place” and “The Daughter Who Came to Her Parents' Father Who Treated Her,” as opposed to stories where the daughter’s existence is validated in a marital relationship with a man. It was concluded that the transmission of stories about “women in the spotlight” has strengthened. The type of “daughter-in-law” was confirmed as “change reflecting reality”. In other words, it was found that “extreme filial piety stories” that only emphasize filial piety in the face of a child’s death weakened, while “realistic filial piety stories increased,” such as the “Daughter-in-Law Who Served With Earthworm Soup.” It was also revealed that stories about reconciling after conflict between a newly married daughter-in-law and her parents-in-law have tended to be narrated less often, reflecting decreased interest in such relationships as daughters-in-laws and parents-in-law have gradually stopped cohabiting. Regarding mythological tales featuring tigers, goblins, and ghosts, the transmission of stories told in the form of “experience stories” has strengthened, and “urban ghost stories” such as “Taxi Driver Carrying a Ghost” appear to have been embraced as an independent type. Lastly, the transmission of “derived tales” has been further strengthened in the case of “geographical origin stories,” while, the transmission of historical stories about people who exhibited filial piety and fidelity, such as the tale of “Hyeonpung Kwak's family,” has weakened, and the story of the progenitor who was born into a good place has showed a tendency toward enthusiastic narration.
