COVID-19 팬데믹 상황에서 노인 상담 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 COVID-19 팬데믹 상황에서 노인들이 어떤 정서를 경험하고, 상담이 노인들에게 어떤 의미를 부여하는지를 알아보고자 하는 분석 연구였다. 이를 위하여 노인복지시설을 이용하는 노인 9명을 대상으로 진행했던 집단상담 그리고 그 이후 개별적인 심층 면담 내용을 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, COVID-19 팬데믹 상황에서 노인들이 경험하는 정서에 대한 9개의 의미 있는 단위와 3개의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었고, 이들은 하나의 구성요소로 통합되었다. 즉 ‘갑작스러운 정서적 변화 경험’이라는 구성요소에 ‘사회적 고립과 단절로 인한 고독감’, ‘두려움과 공포심에서 유발된 불안감’, 그리고 ‘고독감과 불안감에서 파생된 우울감’이라는 하위 구성요소가 도출되었다. 아울러 집단상담이 COVID-19 팬데믹 상황에서 노인들에게 어떤 경험과 의미를 제공하는지를 분석한 결과, 30개의 의미 있는 단위와 10개의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었고, 이들도 하나의 구성요소로 통합되었다. 즉 ‘COVID-19 팬데믹 이후 상담에 의한 변화’라는 구성요소에 ‘일상에 대한 부정적 인식 및 높은 스트레스’, ‘문제해결력 부재 및 정서 파악 어려움’ 등의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었다. 이 연구는 COVID-19 팬데믹 상황에서 노인들이 어떤 정서를 경험하는지를 그들의 생생한 이야기로 확인했고, 집단상담이 노인들의 정신건강 증진에 도움을 줄 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study was to analyze the older adults’ emotional state during the COVID-19 pandemic. The state was explored through both group and individual interview. All the contents of the interview for nine community-dwelling older adults were analyzed by the phenomenological approach. From analyzing the emotional state, nine meaning units and three sub-themes were emerged, and those were clustered into one theme. The theme was named as ‘mood swings,’ while the three sub-themes as ‘loneliness catalyzed by social isolation,’ ‘anxiety triggered by fear,’ and ‘depression induced by loneliness and anxiety.’ This study was also to analyze the older adults’ feedback on the interview. That is, how meaningful they felt from the interview was explored. From analyzing the feedback, thirty meaning units and ten sub-themes were emerged, and those were clustered into one theme. The theme was named as ‘changes made from counseling after COVID-19 pandemic,’ while the ten sub-themes were named as ‘being pessimistic and bearing high levels of stress in daily life’ ‘absence of problem-solving capability and difficulty in evaluating emotional status’ and so on. This study confirmed that the emotional state experienced during the pandemic was severely negative, and the significance of the study was that such a negative emotional state could be resolved through counseling.
