국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램이 초등학생들의 기후변화 소양에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 이 프로그램에 대한 학생들의 인식을 조사하여 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 수업의 적용 가능성을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 과학-기술-사회(STS) 학습 모형에 기초하여 10차시 분량의 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램을 개발하였고, 이질통제집단 설계에 따라 학생들의 기후변화 소양 수준의 변화를 t-검정과 Wilcoxon 부호 순위 검정을 통해 확인하였다. 또한 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램을 마친 후, 반구조화된 집단 면담을 진행하여 프로그램에 대한 학생들의 인식 및 만족도를 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램은 학생들의 기후변화 소양을 증진하는 데 효과적인 것으로 나타났으며, 기후변화 교육에 대한 학생들의 흥미와 만족도를 높이는 것으로 조사되었다. 이 연구에서 개발한 시각 예술 자료를 활용한 기후변화 교육 프로그램은 초등학생들이 기후변화에 대한 개념을 이해하고, 기후변화에 대한 올바른 관점과 태도를 형성하는 데 효과적으로 기능할 수 있으며, 초등학교 고학년 학생들을 대상으로 한 창의적 체험활동 수업은 물론 교과 간 연계 수업의 형태로도 확장하여 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study examines the impact of an innovative climate change education program using visual arts (CCEUVA ) on the climate change literacy of elementary school students. We further explore the broader applicability of visual artwork in climate change classes by investigating students’ perceptions of the program. To this end, we developed a climate change education program comprising 10 sessions based on the Science-Technology-Society learning model. By comparison to a nonequivalent control group, the enhancement in CCEUVA students’ climate change literacy level was confirmed as statistically significant through a t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. In addition, after the completion of the CCEUVA program, we conducted semi structured group interviews to investigate the students’ perceptions and satisfaction with the program. Those interviews found that the CCEUVA program was effective in enriching students’ climate change literacy and increasing their interest in, and satisfaction with, climate change education. The CCEUVA program developed in this study is demonstrably effective in helping elementary school students understand climate change concepts and form appropriate, well-informed, perspectives and attitudes toward climate change . In addition, we proposed that this program can be applied not only to creative experience activity classes for high-grade elementary school students but also to interdisciplinary classes.
