자기 주도적 영어 과제 활동에 대한 대학생들의 경험 연구: 영어 탈동기에서 재동기로의 모색

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생들이 자기 주도적으로 영어 과제를 수행할 때 영어 학습에 대한 탈동기가 재동기로 탈바꿈될 수 있을 것이라는 가정에서 출발한다. 본 연구의 목적은 자기 주도적 영어 과제 활동으로 유튜브 매체를 활용하고 대학생들이 경험한 의미의 본질을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 4년제 대학 신입생 10명을 연구 대상자로 선정하였고, 심층 면접을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료 분석은 질적 사례연구 방법을 활용하여 주제별로 범주화하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존 과제의 정해진 틀로 인해 연구참여자들은 형식을 벗어나는 데 어려움을 겪었다. 둘째, 연구참여자들은 자기 주도적 영어 과제가 스스로의 힘으로 목표에 도달한다는 점에서 뿌듯함과 성취감을 느꼈다. 셋째, 연구참여자들은 자기 주도적 과제 활동을 통해 자신의 부족한 점을 발견하고 보완할 수 있었다. 넷째, 연구참여자들은 본인의 수준에 따라 과제 수행을 하면서 자신감 상승과 더불어 다양한 학습 효과를 경험하였다. 다섯째, 연구참여자들은 과제 본연이 가지는 스트레스에서 자유로워져 재미와 흥미를 경험하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 연구자는 자기 주도적 영어 과제를 교육 현장에 효과적으로 접목하기 위한 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

This study starts with the assumption that de-motivation for learning English can be transformed into re-motivation when university students perform their self-directed homework assignment. Based on this, the research aims to analyze the meanings of university students’ experiences on doing self-directed homework assignment activity using YouTube. For this purpose, 10 freshmen from a four-year university were selected as participants and the data were collected through in-depth interviews. The collected data were analyzed into categories based on the themes by using the qualitative case study method. The result findings are as follows. First, the participants had difficulties in breaking down the framework of existing homework assignment. Second, they felt proud and fulfilled in that they reached the goal with their own strength. Third, they took the chance to discover and supplement their own shortcomings. Fourth, they reported that they acquired self-confidence and learning effects as they did their self-directed homework assignment according to their English level. Fifth, they were feeling fun and interest from the stress of existing homework assignment. Based on the findings, this suggests the ways to apply self-directed homework assignment to educational fields.
