영유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니들의 영유아 건강에 대한 인식과 실천 및 요구

국문 초록

본 연구는 영유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니들의 영유아 건강에 대한 기초적인 인식과 일상생활 속에서 자녀 건강을 위한 실천은 어떠하며 그 과정에서 겪는 어려움과 요구되는 것은 무엇인지를 어머니들의 이야기를 통해 알아보고 이에 대한 깊은 이해를 도모하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 영유아기 자녀를 양육하고 있는 어머니 10명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 어머니들의 생각과 경험을 심층면담을 통해 자료수집하고 이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 영유아 자녀를 둔 어머니들은 정신과 육체의 조화로서의 건강개념을 가지고 건강에 영향을 주는 요인을 유전, 가정환경, 생활환경, 자연환경으로 인식하고 있었다. 또한 영유아 자녀의 건강을 위해 의․식․주의 일상생활 속에서 적극적으로 노력을 하고 있었다. 더불어 자녀 건강을 위한 실천에 있어 개인적인 고충과 보육·교육기관의 현실에 대한 아쉬움을 토로하였고 현실을 반영한 국가 정책과 영유아보육·교육기관의 몸 중심의 물리적 환경과 놀이 중심 교육과정에 대한 바램을 드러내었다. 본 연구의 결과는 건강 개념에 대한 폭 넓은 인식과 현 시대 상황을 반영한 다양한 환경요인을 고려한 유아건강교육프로그램의 개발 및 자녀 건강을 위한 부모교육의 기초자료를 제공하는데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims at grouping in-depth understanding by looking into how is basic recognition of mothers with young children on health and what is practiced for young children’s health in daily life, and what difficulties and demands having been suffered from in the process are existed in mothers’ stories by using a qualitative research. In order to do so, the research participants were 10 mothers caring for young children, selected by means of purposive sampling, who lived in P City. Data were collected and analyzed through in-depth interviews concerning each mother’s thoughts and experiences on health. The research results were as follows. First, mothers with young children defined the concept of health as possessing a stable, harmonized, and desirable physical and mental wellbeing. They also referred to unavoidable heredity as a contributing factor, as well as harmful living environments and the seemingly evermore-uncontrollable natural environment as influencing health. Second, mothers trusted the role of vaccinations in preventing diseases, and coped with diseases using their own knowledge. Furthermore, they made positive efforts in daily life in terms of the provision of food, clothing, and shelter for their young children’s health. Third, mothers revealed personal difficulties, such as a sense of responsibility or burden and a sense of guilt in terms of making effort and implementing practices to improve young children’s health. They also regretted the current state of educational daycare centers, and disclosed expectations and demands related to physical environment of body-centered and play-centered curricula. These findings are significant in terms of the provision of basic data related to parental education in the field of young children’s health, together with the development of young children health educational programs which reflects wider recognition of the concept of health in contemporary circumstances, and also considers various environmental factors.
