장애인 대학원생의 차별 및 대처 경험 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등교육에서 장애인에 대한 차별을 금지하고 권리를 구제하는 법적 장치들에도 불구하고, 대학원 내의 다양한 상호작용 속에서 나타나는 미시적 차별에 주목하여, 장애인 대학원생들이 맞닥뜨리는 차별과 그 대처 경험을 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 확인하기 위하여 대학원에 재학 중인 7명의 장애인 대학원생을 대상으로 심층인터뷰를 진행하고, Giogi의 현상학적 연구방법으로 분석을 진행하였다. 분석 결과, 장애인 대학원생의 차별 경험은 “공적 장애학생지원체계에서 배제됨”과, “사적 관계에서 미시적 차별을 경험함”으로 나타나, 고등교육 기관 내의 성과주의라는 구조적 문화로 차별을 경험하는 것으로 드러났다. 대처 경험은 “개인의 비공식적 자원 및 전략으로 적응함”, “‘장애’를 연구 주제로 선택함”으로 드러났는데 이들은 대학원에서 살아남는 것이 목적이 되는 대처를 선택하고 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 하여 법과 제도의 측면에서 장애인 대학원생을 지원하는 체계를 마련할 것을, 대학 공동체 측면에서 인식개선 및 인권 교육을 재고할 것을, 그리고 장애인 대학원생이 경험을 교류할 조직체를 구성할 것을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine discrimination encountered by graduate students and their coping strategies, focusing on the microaggressions delivered by diverse interactions within graduate school where the legal system is operating in order to stop discrimination against disabilities and protect the rights of the people with disabilities. In-depth interviews with seven participants were analysed by Giorgi’s psychological phenomenological methods. The results are summarized as follows. First, the discrimination experiences have categorized by two subtitles: “exclusion from formal support system for students with disabilities” and “experience of microaggressions within personal relationship”. Second, the coping experiences emerge as “adaptation using individuals’ informal resources and strategies” and “utilization of disability as research sphere”. These experiences confirmed that the participants exploit diverse coping strategies as surviving. With the results, this study suggests to set the support system for graduate students with disabilities in terms of law and policy, to deliberate the rights and awareness education in university, and to organize the network for graduate students with disabilities.
