국문 초록

중년전환기는 인생의 전반기에서 후반기로 이행하는 정점에 서 있으며, 심리적으로 뚜렷한 변화를 경험하는 시기이다. 본고는 중년전환기 여성의 인생구조 변화와 재평가 과정에서 경험하는 신경증에 관한 연구로, 중년기의 신경증은 신경증 증상 자체보다는 삶의 의미와 목적을 찾고자 하는 영혼의 고통으로 이해하였다. 중년전환기 여성의 신경증은 다양한 요인이 있겠지만, ‘성의 분리’(gender splitting)가 중년전환기 여성 신경증의 핵심요소가 된다는 관점에서 연구하였다. 중년기 신경증이 삶의 의미와 목적을 찾고자 한다는 측면에서 종교성을 띠는데, 이를 Tillich의 소외의 관점에서 살펴봄으로써 신경증의 종교적 차원에 관해 논의하였다. 본 연구는 Levinson의 중년전환기 여성에 관한 연구를 바탕으로 하여 Jung의 중년기 신경증 개념으로 이들이 경험하는 심리적 침체를 심리·사회적인 면에서 재해석하였으며, Tillich의 병리적 불안개념을 통하여 중년기 신경증이 갖는 종교적인 면에 관하여 살펴보았다. 신경증은 고통스러운 경험이지만, 신경증의 이면에 있는 목적의미를 발견하여 심리적인 균형을 이루어 나갈 때, 개인의 발달과 성숙을 가져올 수 있는 기회가 될 수 있음을 제시함으로써 중년기 신경증에 대한 이해에 도움을 주고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Mid–life transition occurs during the middle of the first half of life to the second half of life, and there is a noticeable psychological change. This research is about the life–structure changes of mid–life transition women and neurosis that arises during their revaluation period, neurosis in middle age can be understood as the suffering of a human being who has not yet discovered what life means for them. This dissertation has its chief focus on ‘gender splitting’ as the primary element of neurosis. Neurosis in middle age shows religiosity, so this research discussed the religious dimension of neurosis through study on the pathological anxiety of Tillich’s point of view. This study is based on Levinson’s research regarding women during the mid–life transition, reinterprets women’s neurosis from psychological and sociological dimensions, which is comparable to the concept of neurosis of Jung, and look for religious aspects of neurosis through the concept of Tillich’s pathological anxiety. Although neurosis is a painful experience, to find out the meaning of life in the hidden side of neurosis and maintain psychological balance, can be a chance for personal development.
