밀레니얼 초등교사의 교사 정체성 형성과정에 관한 질적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 최근 교직에 등장하고 있는 밀레니얼 교사들의 교사 정체성 형성과정을 탐색함으로써 이들에 대한 이해를 심화하는 데에 있다. 이를 위하여 이 연구에서는 4명의 밀레니얼 초등교사들을 대상으로 질적 사례 연구를 수행하여 1) 밀레니얼 초등교사들이 어떻게 교사 정체성을 형성하는지, 2) 이들 교사들의 교사 정체성 형성과정에서 나타난 특징은 무엇인지를 탐색하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 밀레니얼 교사들은 각자 다양한 방식으로 자신들의 교사 정체성을 형성하고 있었으며 이는 시간적 흐름에 따라 구성된 네 교사의 이야기로 제시되었다. 이들 교사 정체성 형성과정에서 드러난 특징으로는 첫째, 밀레니얼 교사들이 자신들의 일과 관련하여 느끼는 내·외적인 성취감이 그들의 교사 정체성 형성의 기반으로서 중요한 역할을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 밀레니얼 교사들은 고유한 생애 경험을 바탕으로 한 개인적 정체성과 교사로서의 전문적 실천과 관련된 전문적 정체성을 통합하는 경향이 있었다. 셋째, 밀레니얼 교사들은 ‘온라인 환경의 적극적 이용’과 ‘함께 할 학교 밖 동료 찾기’와 같은 학교 밖 맥락을 전략적으로 활용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 밀레니얼 교사들의 교사 정체성 형성과정에는 이러한 공유되는 특징도 있었으나, 세부적인 측면에서는 교사 간에 차이가 있음이 발견되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 향후 밀레니얼 교사 연구에 줄 수 있는 시사점이 논의되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to deepen the understanding of millennial teachers that have recently appeared in the teaching profession by exploring the process of their teacher identity formation. The research questions are 1) how millennial primary teachers form their teacher identity? 2) what characteristics appeared in their teacher identity formation? To this end, researchers conducted a qualitative case study of four millennial primary teachers. The findings show that millennial teachers construct their own teacher identity in various ways, presented as the story of four teachers organized over time. The characteristics revealed in the teacher identity formation of these teachers are as follows. First of all, the internal and external sense of achievement was essential for millennial teacher identity formation. Millennial teachers tended to integrate personal identity based on their own life experiences and professional identity related to professional practice as teachers. Millennial teachers used strategically out-of-school contexts such as the online environment and fellow teachers. There were also shared characteristics on the process of teacher identity formation for millennial teachers, but in detail, differences between them. Based on these findings, we discussed implications for future research about millennial teachers.
