다문화사회와 불교의 종교교육

국문 초록

현재 다문화 지원 사업이 정부 및 지자체, 민간과 종교 관련 단체를 중심으로 급속히 증가하는 추세지만 아직 만족할 수준은 못된다. 특히 문화 및 종교적 정체성과 관련된 다문화사회의 본질적이고 심층적인 사안들에 대해서는 더욱 깊이 있는 연구와 관심이 절실히 요청되고 있다. 다문화사회를 위한 종교교육의 필요성은 정체성 문제의 해결과 같은 더욱 본질적인 현안들을 중심으로 탐색해 볼 수 있으며, 나아가 다문화사회를 위한 불교교육의 의미와 역할도 다문화교육과의 관련 속에서 논의될 수 있다고 본다. 그런데 우리의 현실적인 다문화교육의 현장에서 가장 어려운 난제중의 하나는 인식의 오류에서 비롯되는 편견이나 차별의식을 극복하는 문제이기 때문에 다문화사회를 위한 불교교육의 역할은 그러한 점에서 더 한층 기대된다. 유식이론은 편견이나 차별의식을 근원적으로 해체할 수 있는 대승불교의 위대한 사상이다. 유식사상의 전체적인 대의는 영상문, 연기문, 삼성문 유식의 관점으로 요약할 수 있는데 그 속에는 분별의식을 근원적으로 초월할 수 있는 불교교육의 원리와 방법이 잘 함축되어 있다. 나, 자연, 문화와의 상호 연관성, 생사를 포함한 생태적 순환체계의 원리, 부분과 전체를 하나의 관점에서 취급할 수 있는 통일성, 즉 홀리즘 사상의 관점에서 조망해 볼 수 있는 불교적 세계관, 공성의 실천 원리들이 잘 정리되어 있다. 이러한 불교교육의 원리들이 작금의 다문화사회에서 원활히 실현되기 위해서는 일선 교육현장에서 수월하게 사용할 수 있는 체계적이고 구체적인 불교교육커리큘럼의 개발이 선행되고 보급되어야 한다. 이러한 작업을 위해서 인접분야인 홀리스틱 교육, 영성교육 등에 대해서도 많은 관심과 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

Currently, projects of supporting the multi-cultural society tend to increase rapidly through the government, local government, civilian and religious organizations, but there are still a lot to be done. Particularly, for the essential and in-depth properties of multiculture concerning cultural and religious identity, deeper studies and more interests will be desperately needed. The requirement of religion education for the multi-cultural society can be researched through more fundamental issues including the solution of identity problem. In addition, the meaning and role of the Buddhism education for the multi-cultural society can be discussed in regard to multi-cultural education. However, since one of the most difficult questions facing in the real case of multi-cultural education is getting over the prejudice and discrimination resulting from fallacy of recognition, the role of Buddhism education for the multi-cultural society is further expected with it. The theory of Yousik is the great idea of mahāyāna that could deconstruct prejudice or discrimination fundamentally. The general tenor of Yousik comes down to Youngsangmun, Yunkimun, Samsungmun Yousik, in which the principles and methods of Buddhism education are implicated to help transcend discrimination fundamentally. The interrelationship among myself, nature, and culture, the principle of ecological cycle system including life and death, the unity that can handle whole and parts in one point of view, that is, Buddhist view of the world through holism, the practical principles of śūnyatā are well organized. For these Buddhist principles to realize smoothly in the current multi-cultural society, systematic and specific Buddhism education curriculum that can be easily accessible in the front line of education should be developed and distributed. To do this, more interest and research should be required for the adjacent fields, holistic education, and spiritual education as well.
