장애를 가진 아동의 행복에 관한 탐색적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 생애주기 상 아동기를 지나고 있으면서 장애인으로서의 경험이 교차하는 지점에 있는 장애아동들의 ‘행복’에 대한 주관적 경험을 탐색적으로 살펴보기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 5개 장애 유형(총 16명)의 장애아동을 대상으로 장애유형별 집단면접을 실시하였고, 주제분석방법(Thematic analysis) 을 활용하여 5개의 핵심주제와 19개의 하위주제를 도출하였다. 도출된 핵심주제는 ‘장애아동들이 생각하는 행복’, ‘비장애아동과 다름없는 일상의 행복요인’, ‘장애로 인한 일상생활의 제약’, ‘주변인들의 인식과 태도’, ‘미래에 대한 준비’였다. 연구결과, 본 연구에 참여한 장애아동들은 비장애 아동들과 다르지 않은 일상을 살아가고, 소소한 취미에서 즐거움을 느끼며 시험성적과 친구 및 가족과의 관계 등에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 한편으로는 장애로 인해 일상생활에서의 제약을 경험하고, 주변 사람들의 편견과 부정적 시선으로 인해 상처받은 경험이 있었다. 또한 앞으로 미래를 준비하는데 있어서도 직면할 미래에 대한 두려움과 고민, 희망이 교차하는 모습을 보였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 장애아동에 대한 연구와 실천에 있어 ‘장애를 가진 아동’으로서, 아동기와 장애의 교차성과 개별성에 기반한 접근이 필요하다는 점을 논하고, 장애아동의 행복을 향상시키기 위한 방안으로 환경체계의 개선 및 장애 인식개선, 아동의 교육참여 및 진로탐색을 위한 지원과 참여권 증진의 필요성을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to explore the subjective experience of happiness of disabled children at the intersection of their experiences as disabled throughout their childhood. Interviews were conducted on 16 children with 5 types of disabilities, and categorized the daily lives of disabled children through content analysis, and five key topics and 19 subtopics were derived using thematic analysis method. Disabled children who participated in the study live daily lives that are no different from those of non-disabled children, feel joy in small hobbies, and are affected by test scores and relationships with friends and family. On the other hand, however, they have experienced restrictions in their daily lives due to disabilities, and have been hurt by prejudice and negative views from people around them. Also, in preparing for the future, they showed mixed feelings of fears, worries and hopes for the future. Based on the results, we discussed the need for an individualized approach based on the intersection and individuality of childhood and disability in research and practice of disabled children, and proposed the need to improve the environmental system, improve disability awareness, children s participation in education and career exploration.
