국문 초록

이 글은, 콜링우드의 ｢예술의 원리｣를 중심으로 하여, 그의 예술이론이 교육의 맥락에서 가지게 되는 의미를 탐색한다. 이를 보다 구체화하면, 교육에서 초점이 되는 지식의 전달이 예술에서 이루어지는 정서의 전달에 비추어 어떻게 이해될 수 있는가를 확인하는 것이다. 통념상 정서는 사고와 무관한 것으로 간주되지만, 콜링우드는 정서와 사고의 관련에 특별한 주의를 기울인다. 콜링우드의 예술이론에서 핵심개념에 해당하는 ‘정서의 표현’은 감각 수준의 정서에서 상상 수준의 정서로 전환하는 것을 의미하여, 후자의 정서는 일차적인 사고의 성격을 띠게 된다. 흔히 정서는 직접적인 전달이 가능한 것으로 여겨지지만, 콜링우드의 체계에서 정서의 전달은 언제나 간접전달의 형태로 설명된다. ‘언어’(원초적 언어)는 정서를 표현하는 상상적 활동이며, 예술은 그러한 언어의 특징을 전형적으로 예시한다. 언어의 중요한 특징은 ‘정서적 표현성’이며, 원초적 언어가 변형된 ‘지성화된 언어’ 역시 언어의 특징을 공유하게 된다. 교육이 지성화된 언어의 전달을 위주로 하는 활동이라면, 교육은 ‘정서적 표현성’이라는 특징을 원초적 언어와 공유하게 됨으로써, 지식의 전달에서 간접전달의 형태를 취하게 된다.

영문 초록

This article, focusing on R. G. Collingwood s The Principles of Art, explores the educational implications of his theory of art. To make this problem more concrete, it is to confirm how the communication of knowledge, which is the main concern of education, can be understood in the light of the communication of emotion in art. In general, emotions are considered unrelated to thought, but Collingwood focuses on the relation between emotions and thought. In Collingwood s theory of art, expression of emotion which is his core concept, means a transition from emotion at the level of sensation to emotion at the level of imagination, and this latter emotion takes on the character of first-order thought. It is often believed that emotions can be communicated directly, but in Collingwood s system, the communication of emotions is always explained in the form of indirect communication. ‘Language’(primitive language) is an imaginative activity that expresses emotion, and art typically exemplifies the characteristics of language. An important characteristic of language is emotional expressiveness , and the intellectualized language into which primitive language is transformed also shares the characteristics of language. If education is an activity that focuses on the communication of intellectualized language, educational communication also takes the form of indirect communication by sharing the characteristic of emotional expression with the primitive language.
