국문 초록

다문화 사회의 도래로 문화적 다양성에 대한 수용과 이해가 교육에서 다루어야 할 중요한 문제로 언급되고 있다. 이에 따라 여러 교과에서 문화적 다양성 이해를 위한 다양한 실천적 방안을 모색하고 있는데 미술교육은 문화와 역사, 시대상의 반영인 미술을 감상하고활용할 수 있다는 점에서 다문화 교육을 위한 최적의 방안으로 여겨질 수 있다. 특히 동시대 미술은 수많은 문화가 공존하는 현재의 시대상과 그 안에서의 삶의 이야기를 담고 있기때문에 문화적 다양성 교육을 위한 효과적인 자료로서 가치가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 실용주의 시각에서 현대미술을 현시대의 삶과 문화적, 사회적 문제를반영하고 있는 시각적 상징으로 보고, 맥락적 비평을 통해 작품 속에 함축되어 있는 문화적 다양성과 관련된 이슈에 대해 논의, 문화적 다양성 이해를 위한 미술교육에서 현대미술이 갖는 의미 및 현대미술 탐구의 예시를 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 미술의 본질적 의미와 가치, 미술비평의 기능에 대해 이론적으로 고찰하고, 문화적 다양성을 주제로다루고 있는 현대작가와 작품을 선정하였다. 선정한 작품은 앤더슨과 밀브란트의 미술비평모형을 적용, 인터뷰와 관련문헌 고찰을 통하여 맥락적으로 분석하였다. 이러한 맥락적작품비평과정을 통하여 다문화 사회로의 변화, 이주여성, 다문화 가정의 자녀 등 현재 한국사회가 안고 있는 문화적 다양성에 관한 이슈를 도출하였으며 나아가 미술교육에 대한함의에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구는 다문화 시대에서 현대미술이 갖는 의미, 문화적 다양성 이해를 위한 미술교육에 있어 현대미술의 활용, 교육적 미술비평의 예시를 제시하였다는 점에서 의미를 갖는다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine thematic issues related tocultural diversity by analyzing works of a contemporary Korean artist intheir authentic context, and then drawing implications for art education. The pragmatic view of art as a reflection of life experience is explored, aswell as the notion that contemporary art can be regarded as visualevidence of contemporary life circumstances and real life issues areshared with viewers. From this foundation, the meaning and value of artas a reflection of life experience and the function of art criticism forunderstanding art were examined through the works of one contemporaryKorean artist. Using a contextual art criticism method, the analysisfocused on issues of cultural diversity as expressed by the artist throughher art, as well as the implications of the results for art education. Theoutcome of this study suggests ways that art educators in the classroomcan facilitate students’ understandings and expressions of issues relatedto cultural diversity in their society and show an example of usingcontemporary art as a good recourse for its practice.
