마니주 비유의 교육학적 해석

국문 초록

올바른 삶에 관한 성찰이 요구되는 한, 기준의 내재와 초월의 관련 문제는 언제나 삶의 중요한 관심사로 부각되어 왔다. 불교 수행의 맥락에서 등장하는 마니주 비유는 이 주제를 직접적으로 문제 삼고 있다. 본 연구의 해석에 따르면, 수행에 관한 올바른 견해를 나타내는 하택의 관점은, 삶의 기준은 현상에 내재하면서 동시에 초월한다는 점을 핵심 주장으로 삼고 있다. 기준의 초월을 말하지 않으면 수행은 불필요하게 되고, 내재를 말하지 않으면 수행은 가능하지 않게 된다. 마음의 본체로서의 ‘寂’은 기준의 초월에, ‘知’는 기준의 내재에 각각 연결된다. 교육의 맥락에서 해석된 하택의 관점은, 교육은 초월적 기준에의 합치를 그 목표로 하면서 그것이 어떻게 가능한지를 설득력 있게 보여준다. 한편 마니주 비유를 초점으로 하여 수행의 과정을 치밀하게 분석한 지눌(종밀 포함)의 관점은, 새로운 학문 영역으로 부상한 메타프락시스가, 용어상의 의미 그대로, ‘실천의 실천’으로 이해할 수 있는 한 가지 해석을 제시한다.

영문 초록

As far as we are concerned in reflecting on our lives, it has always been an important matter how to relate the transcendence of the standard to the immanence of the standard. The Mani jewel is the root metaphor which handles the relation between the transcendence and the immanence in Buddhist practice. By the interpretation of this study, the standard revealed in the Ho-Tse s school is transcendental and immanent simultaneously for the myriad things and myriad sensible minds. If it were not for the transcendence , there would be no necessity for practice. On the contrary, if it were not for the immanence , there would be no possibility for practice. Calmness (寂) which stands for the substance of mind corresponds to the transcendence of the standard, and Awareness (知) which stands for the function of mind as well as the substance of mind corresponds to the immanence of the standard. The Viewpoint of the Ho-Tse s school which is interpreted in this study distinctly shows that education aims at leading the student s mind to the transcendental standard and that how it is possible. In addition to this, Chinul s(including Tsung-mi s) viewpoint which analyzed Buddhist practice elaborately focusing the process of the practice shows an prominent interpretation of the metapraxis which means the praxis of praxis .
