국문 초록

함린의 인식론은, 전통적 인식론과는 달리, ‘생득적’ 지식에 의존하지 않으면서도 지식의 원천이 공적인 것임을 보여주었다는 점에서 중요한 의의를 지닌다. 그러나 그의 견해에서 지식획득의 토대로 제시된 ‘삶의 형식’ 또는 ‘사회’는 경험적 색채를 지니며, 이 점 때문에 그의 견해는 불완전하다. 지식의 획득을 형이상학적 ‘이념’의 자발적 표현이라는 관점에서 설명하는 칸트의 인식론적 논의는, 메타프락시스에 비추어 해석할 때, 함린의 미비점을 보완하는 것으로 이해될 수 있다. 이 관점을 따를 때, 이념은 지식의 획득 이전에 주어져 있는 것이 아니라, 지식의 획득과 함께 점진적으로 확립된다고 보지 않으면 안된다. 지식의 획득을 주된 과업으로 삼는 교육은 지식의 원천을 확립하는 공적 활동으로서의 성격을 지닌다고 말할 수 있다. 그리고 이 점은 도덕의 원천 문제와 관련해서도 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 만약 도덕이 지식의 경우와 마찬가지로 이념으로서의 성격을 지닌다면, 도덕의 원천은 교육에 의하여 정립되며, 따라서 그것은 다른 무엇에 의해서가 아니라 교육에 의하여 정당화된다고 보아야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Hamlyn s theory of knowledge is suggestive of getting over the logical problems, i. e. that of innate ‘knowledge’ and the ‘origin’ of knowledge, which are implicit in classical epistemological theories. In his view, however, ‘the social’ or ‘the form of life’ as the precondition of knowledge acquisition is the factual or empirical. For this reason, it is doubtful that his view offers a definite solution to the above problems. According to Kant’s theory of knowledge, the business of knowledge acquisition is not defined in terms of the initiation into the social, but the act of ‘Idea’ manifesting itself in the various concepts. The Idea is, in comparison with the social in Hamlyn’s view, the ‘logical’ or ‘metaphysical’. However, from the viewpoint of educational epistemology or the ‘metapractical’ viewpoint which puts emphasis on the cultivation of mind, the Idea does not lie in human mind at birth. From that point of view, the Idea is something acquired through the process of the concept acquisition in the phenomenal world, and the process sets up the existence of the Idea. And this view is of importance in relation to moral education. If the good will as the origin of morality in Kantian philosophy is the ethical counterpart of the Idea, it can be said that the existence of morality( good will ) is indeed established in educational practice as the process of the concept acquisition.
