국문 초록

본 연구는 쉴러의 「미적 교육론」에 나타난 두 가지 핵심개념, 즉 ‘유희충동’과 ‘미적 가상’에 주목하여, 그의 교육이론이 지니는 시사점을 인식론적 관점에서 해석하기 위한 연구이다. 감각충동과 형식충동의 ‘상보적 관련’ 또는 ‘조화’로 규정되는 유희충동은 가장 완전한 상태의 인간 본성을 가리키면서, 또한 동시에, 그것은 인간 마음의 핵심부, 즉 모든 생각과 말과 행동이 솟아나오는 ‘원천’에 해당한다. 쉴러는 예술작품에 한정하여 ‘미적 가상’을 논의하고 있지만, 그것은 유희충동(또는 미적 상태)의 현상적 표현 전체를 포괄하는 개념으로 해석될 수 있으며, 이와 같은 관점에서 보면, 지식 또한 ‘미적 가상’으로서의 성격을 가진다고 말할 수 있다. ‘미적 가상으로서의 지식’은 오늘날 지식교육이 처한 곤경을 비판적으로 고찰하고, 그 곤경으로부터 벗어나는 데에 필요한 방향을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the implications on the nature of knowledge of Schiller s ‘aesthetic education’, especially putting focus on two key concepts. i.e., ‘play-drive’ and ‘aesthetic semblance’. In Schiller’s theory, play-drive, defined as the reciprocal action between sense-drive and form-drive, refers to the most complete state of human nature, and at the same time, to the innermost ‘root’ of human mind. The notions of ‘determinability’, ‘nought’ and ‘infinite’ also show that aesthetic state refers to the ‘origin’ of all manifestations of human nature. Although Schiller uses the term of aesthetic semblance only for the works of fine arts, it can be interpreted as the concept that can encompasses the all sensible manifestations of ‘beauty as the Idea’. In this interpretation, knowledge as the work of human mind has the nature of an aesthetic semblance. The conception of ‘knowledge as an aesthetic semblance’ implies important significances against the coarse attacks on the knowledge education of today, and suggests the direction necessary to get out of it.
