학습 참여 촉진요인에 대한 대학생들의 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생들이 인식하는 학습 참여 촉진요인을 질적으로 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 수업 전 학습자들의 학습 참여 촉진요인에 대한 인식을 알아보았고, 학습 참여촉진의 주요 요인인 정서를 고려하여 플립 러닝 영어 수업을 설계하고 교실에서 적용해 본 후 학습자들의 경험을 학습 참여와 관련하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 Colaizzi의 질적 연구방법을 적용하였고, 자료수집을 위해 강원도 소재 C 대학의 대학영어 수업에 참여한 대학교 1학년 중에서 자발적으로 참여 의사를 밝힌 10명을 대상으로 수업 전 전화면접과 수업 후 반 구조화 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들이 인식하는 학습 참여 촉진요인은 교수의 소통 능력, 열정, 유익하고 재미있는 강의와 학습자의 참여 의지인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 정서 중심의 플립 러닝 영어 수업의 학습 참여 촉진요인은 교실 안팎에서의 소통, 관심과 배려, 열정, 자율성 지지, 수업 방식 등으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 학습 참여를 높이는 데 있어서 대학생들은 지식보다 정서를 중요한 변수로 인식하고 있었고, 플립 러닝 방식은 그 자체로 학습 참여를 이끄는 데 효과적인 교수-학습 방법임을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

This paper explores college students’ perceptions of factors which increase student engagement using qualitative research methods. To this end, telephone and face-to-face interviews were used for investigating participants’ opinions on student engagement before and after flipped English class focused on emotions. The results are as follows. First, before the lecture, participations introduced various ideas on how to increase student engagement, such as teacher’s communication with students, teacher’s passion, useful and interesting class, and students’ willingness. Second, participants stated that flipped class itself lead to student engagement and teacher’s communication with students inside and outside the class, teacher’s passion, caring for his students, teacher’s autonomy support, and teaching type are the factors which increase student engagement. Consequently, college students considered that emotions are very important factors increasing student engagement and general English class design, if Flipped learning and students’ emotion are mixed, is effective to increasing student engagement in L2 classroom.
