다문화가정 자녀 이중언어 사용에 대한 영유아 교사들의 이해와 지원

국문 초록

본 연구는 다문화가정 자녀 이중언어 사용에 대한 영유아 교사의 이해와 이중언어 사용을 위한 교사의 지원은 어떠한지를 탐색하기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 연구참여자는 다문화가정 영유아를 지도한 경험이 있거나 지도하고 있는 유치원 교사 6명과 어린이집 교사 6명(총 12명)이다. 자료 수집을 위한 면담은 연구참여자당 2회, 1회 40분~1시간 10분씩 개별적으로 진행하였으며, 반복적 읽기와 범주화 과정을 통해서 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 교사들은 다문화가정 자녀의 이중언어 사용은 한국어 기초 위에 이루어지는 두 개의 모국어 교육과 같으며 다문화가정 자녀들의 정서적 안정과 소통을 위한 교육, 자신감 형성의 근원이 되는 교육, 다양한 기회 선택의 근간이 되는 교육으로 이해하고 있었다. 둘째, 교사들은 다문화가정 자녀가 구사하는 부모의 모국어를 이중언어 경험 기회와 다문화 교육으로 확장하고 다문화가정 자녀의 상황에 맞는 방법으로 이중언어 사용을 지원하였다. 이는 이중언어 사용에 대한 교사의 긍정적 인식이 교육 현장에서 보다 효율적으로 실현할 수 있는 지원 체계가 마련되어야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study explored how early childhood teachers understand bilingual children from multi-cultural families and how they support them for their bilingual education. The research participants were six kindergarten teachers and six daycare center teachers who had experiences of working with young children multicultural families. Interviews for data collection were conducted two times per participant, 40 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes, and the results were obtained through repeated reading and categorization. The results of this study were as follows. First, early childhood teachers understood children’s use of multi-languages as two mother tongue education on the basis of Korean language. They also believed that they should educate the children not only for emotional stability and communication, but also for building confidence and providing various opportunities. Second, early childhood teachers supported them to use bilingualism in order to extend their mother tongue and their bilingual experiences in a way that is appropriate for the situation of children of multi-cultural families. This suggests that a support system should be arranged so that teachers have more positive perceptions of bilingualism in the field of education.
