A Preliminary Report on Cognitive Inhibition and Suicide Risk in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

국문 초록

CRPS 환자의 자살위험도는 상대적으로 높은 편이다. 집행기능의 주요 요소 중 하나인 인지적 억제는 정서, 인지, 행동을 조절하는 핵심이고, 이러한 기능의 결함은 자살행동과 상당한 관련성이 있다고 알려져 왔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다음 세 집단 간 인지적 억제기능을 비교했다: 1) 자살위험이 높은 CRPS 환자(n=15), 2) 자살위험이 낮은 CRPS 환자(n=7), 3) 건강한 대조군(n=15). 연구 결과, 자살위험이 높은 CRPS 환자집단이 건강한 대조군이나 자살위험이 낮은 CRPS 환자집단에 비해 대체적으로 인지적 억제기능의 결함을 보인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 임상장면에서 인지적 억제가 CRPS 환자의 자살예방을 위한 위험인자와 목표대상으로 사용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The risk of suicide in patients diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is relatively high. Cognitive inhibition, a major component of executive function, is a key factor in regulating emotions, cognitions, and behaviors, and deficits in cognitive inhibition have been strongly associated with suicidal behaviors. This study compared the performance of cognitive inhibition tasks in three groups: 1) CRPS patients with high suicide risk (N=15), 2) CRPS patients with low suicide risk (N=7), and 3) healthy controls (N=15). The results indicate that CRPS patients with high suicide risk showed significant deficits in cognitive inhibition when compared to both of the other groups. These findings suggest the possibility of utilizing cognitive inhibition as a risk factor in suicide prevention and treatment with CRPS patients in clinical settings.
