‘레토릭의 관용표현’과 ‘대항레토릭’전략의 토론 교육 활용 가능성

국문 초록

본고는 Peter lbarra와 John Kitsuse(1993)에 의해 제시된 ‘레토릭의 관용표현’과 ‘대항레토릭’이 토론 교육에 있어서 어떤 부분에 적용 가능한지를 검토한 후에 토론 교육 내용에 어떻게 활용할 수 있는지를 고찰한 것이다. 논제별로는 가치 논제 토론에는 적용할 수 없으며, 정책 논제 토론 중에서 ‘피해’와 ‘내재성’에 해당하는 부분에 ‘레토릭의 관용표현’을 적용할 수 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. ‘대항레토릭’에 관해서는 반박에 있어서 기존 연구에서 제시된 ‘논점 회피’에는 적용할 수 없으나 ‘부분 인정 부분 반박’과 ‘전면적인 반박’에 적용하여 더 세밀화 할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 실제 정책 논제 토론 담화에 적용해서 검토하기 위해 ‘학교 무상급식’에 관한 방송 토론 담화를 선정하였다. 분석 자료에 나타난 찬성 측의 입론과 반대 측의 반박을 추출해 정리한 후에 ‘레토릭의 관용표현’과 ‘대항레토릭’을 적용한 결과 입론과 반박의 개선점이 명확해진다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히 찬성 측의 입론에서 ‘레토릭의 관용표현’을 사용함으로써 문제의 대상이 뚜렷해져 본질적인 문제 해결을 위한 토론으로 진행될 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다. 실제 토론 수업에서 토론이 활발하게 이루어지기 위해서는 무엇보다도 찬성 측의 입론이 잘 구성되어야 한다. 찬성 측 입론의 이상형은 ‘문제를 해결할 수 있는 유일하고도 가장 적합한 수단’에 가까워지는 것이다. 그러기 위해서 선행 연구에서 제시된 토론 교육 내용에 더해 본고에서 소개한 ‘레토릭의 관용표현’의 활용이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This article examined the possibility of using ‘the Rhetorical Idioms’ and ‘the Counterrhetorics’ presented by P.Ibarra&J.Kitsuse(1993) in debate education. There are two topics of debate: one is the value debate and the other is the policy debate. I tried whether ‘the Rhetorical Idioms’ can be applied to the constructive speeches of the value debate and the policy debate. As a result, ‘the Rhetorical Idioms’ were not applicable to the value debate, but to the ‘harms’ and ‘inherency’ in the policy debate. And through comparing ‘the Counterrhetorics’ with the refutation strategies presented in the previous studies, it was found that ‘the Counterrhetorics’ could not apply to the‘evasion of point’, but that they could subdivide the‘partial recognition-partial refutation’and ‘all-out refutation’. I chose two TV debate programs on ‘free school lunch’ to apply these strategies to the actual policy debate. As a result of applying them to the proponents constructive speeches and the opponents refutations, it was proved that the improvements in the constructive speeches and the refutation were clear, in particular, that the object of the problem was obvious in the proponents constructive speeches, and that thus the debate could develop into essential one for problem solving. In order for the debate to be carried out actively, the proponents constructive speeches must be well organized. For the purpose of this, the use of ‘the Rhetorical Idioms’ is necessary in addition to education contents for the debate presented in the preceding studies.
