국문 초록

본 연구는 만30세 이상의 중년기 발달장애 자녀를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 자녀와 함께 나이 듦의 과정 가운데서 느끼는 감정과 경험을 구체적으로 파악하고, 이를 토대로 중년기 이후 발달장애인 당사자 및 가족의 지원방안을 제안하였다. 연구방법은 질적 사례연구방법을 통해 총 8명의 어머니와의 심층면접을 실시하여 자료를 수집하였으며, 사례 내 연구와 사례 간 연구를 시행하였다. 연구결과, “중년기 자녀의 척박한 삶과 급진전되는 조기 노화”, “엉켜버린 삶, 자책 속에 실종해버린 나’, “무기력함과 연민, 그 뒤안길에 서 있는 또 다른 식구들”, “나와 자녀의 꿈, 보통의 삶은 어디에”, “눈감고 싶지만 눈감을 수 없는 이유, 내 아이의 죽음까지도 책임지는 삶” 등 총 다섯 가지 범주가 도출되었다. 연구결과를 토대로 중년기 발달장애인의 특성과 욕구에 맞는 지원과 개입방안 마련, 비장애 자녀와 아버지를 비롯한 전체 가족구성원에 대한 체계적 개입의 필요, 노년기에 접어든 어머니의 심리적 개입과 정신건강 관리의 필요성, 중년기 발달장애인에 대한 사회적 돌봄 체계 마련을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the emotions and experiences of mothers of middle-aged children who are 30 years old or more and have developmental disabilities, and to provide suggestions to expand support services for these individuals and their family based on the findings. A qualitative case study was performed with depth interviews of eight mothers. Analysis was conducted by within-case analysis and cross-case analysis. The findings derived five categories; “the hard life ahead for my rapidly aging middle-aged child”, “my life in tangled and my guilt”, “helplessness and pity, and another family members are standing behind the life of a child with developmental disabilities”, “the lost dream of living like a normal family” and “I cannot kill myself because my life is responsible for my child s death.” Based on these findings, the study provides suggestions for support and intervention that match the characteristics and needs of these individuals, systematic intervention for the entire family including the other children and the father, psychological intervention and mental health management for the aging mother, and a social safety net for the individuals themselves.
