국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 성인교육에서 중요한 개념인 앎과 경험 그리고 성인교육방법에 대한 의미를 플라톤의 󰡔국가󰡕를 통해 본질적 차원에서 접근하고자 하는데 있다. 플라톤 󰡔국가󰡕는 청소년교육뿐만 아니라 성인교육의 구성과 내용에 대해 체계적으로 제시되었으며 상기, 변증법, 자기주도학습 등 교육방법 측면에서도 성인교육적 의의를 가진다. 플라톤에 의하면 성인학습자의 앎은 단순히 기술이나 정보와 같은 가시계가 아니라 지성으로 알 수 있는 가지계이며, 그동안 축적된 불확실한 의견(doxa)들을 끊임없이 내재화하여 확고한 실재의 인식(앎)으로 나아가게 하는 것이다. 플라톤은 모든 경험은 앎과 연결되지 않으며, 경험을 통해 습득된 지식이 기존 지식과의 모순을 경험함으로 진정한 앎이 될 수 있다고 생각했다. 이를 위해 필요한 것이 변증법적 탐구이며 수많은 대화와 탐색하는 과정을 통해 성인학습자는 스스로 참된 앎과 더불어 가치 있는 삶을 살아갈 수 있는 강력한 행위의 원천이 된다. 이렇게 볼 때 성인교육에 있어 앎과 경험, 그리고 변증법적 탐구과정은 서로 유기적으로 연계되어 상호 작용되는 교육, 그 자체라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to approach the meaning of knowledge, experience and adult education methods, which are important concepts in adult education, through Plato s 󰡔Politeia󰡕. Plato s 󰡔Politeia󰡕 was systematically presented with the composition and content of adult education as well as youth education, and was adult educational significance in terms of education methods such as recollection, dialectics and self-directed learning. According to Plato, the adult learner s knowledge is not just a visible world, such as technology or information, but intelligible world known by intelligence. It is to constantly internalize the uncertain opinions(doxa) that have accumulated so far, leading to a firm perception of reality(idea). Plato thought that all experience was not connected to knowledge, and that knowledge acquired through experience can be true knowledge by experiencing contradictions with existing knowledge. What is needed for this is a dialectical inquiry, and through the process of numerous conversations and exploration, adult learners become a source of powerful action to live a worthwhile life with true knowledge. In this regard, knowledge, experience, and dialectical inquiry processes in adult education are the education itself that is interacted with each other organically.
