국문 초록

이 논문은 지난 20세기 후반부터 새롭게 부상한 동시대의 공공미술이 도심재생의 기능과 함께 공간에 대한 미적 체험의 계기가 된다는 것을 논점으로 다루면서, 구체적으로 필자가 예술감독으로 참여한 ‘감천문화마을’의 사례를 중심으로 공공미술을 통한 미적 체험의 특성과 그 구체적 효과를 알아보았다. 공공미술은 20세기 모더니즘 미술이 갖는 개별적인 미적 체험과 사적 전유를 뛰어넘어, 공공의 공간과 장소에 위치하고 공적 관심사에 입각하면서 대중의 참여와 소통 및 공유라는 주된 특징을 갖는다. 공공미술의 영역에서 과거의 수용 대중은 더 이상 전문 예술가가 일방적으로 제시하는 예술을 수동적으로 받아들이기만 하는 객체가 아니라, 문화적 주체로서 능동적으로 소통하고 참여하는 가운데 스스로를 창조적 주체로 경험하게 된다. 논문은 2009년부터 지금까지 공공미술프로젝트가 지속적으로 실행되고 있는 대상지 마을에서 공간의 미적 체험이 갖는 특성과 효과를 활력, 자부심, 참여와 협력, 문화에 대한 새로운 이해 등으로 확인하고, 이를 바탕으로 동시대 공공미술이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시해보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This thesis is a study on the aesthetic experience of space through Public Art. Public Art is not only a method of the urban regeneration but also a significant motive of the aesthetic experience of urban space. Modernism (Modern Art) as aesthetic subjectivism is appreciated by the individual experience and the private possession. But Public Art has some specific character that is popular participation and communication based on the public interest and is located at some public place. Accordingly, it shows a effect of art education from the execution process itself. First, the thesis comments on the developmental process of Public Art and examines the characteristics and function of the aesthetic experience that Public Art has. In the area of Public Art, the receptive masses is no more the object who only receive passively the arts offered by professional artist. They recognize themselves as a creative subject through the active participation and communication. Comparing this experience with the conventional art-experience, there is a great difference in the aspect of art education And through the instance of ‘Gamcheon Culture Village’ which is constantly practiced from 2009, this paper demonstrates the significance and concrete effect of the aesthetic experience of space formed by Public Art. The concrete effects are ‘vitality’, ‘self-confidence’, ‘participation and cooperation’, and ‘comprehension of culture’. ‘Gam-cheon Culture Village’ is acquired the meaningful results by the execution process of last 4 years. Recently, adding cultural contents through Public Art, they publish the village newspaper and have the community center named Gan-nae social center , which has the space to experience and learn cultural art.
