뮤지엄 온라인 원격교육의 의미와 방향

국문 초록

20세기 중반 이후 뮤지엄은 물리적 공간을 벗어나 새로운 매체와 기술을 활용하여 소장품과활동의 접근성을 증대해 왔다. 21세기에 들어와 뮤지엄이 다루는 자료의 개념 역시 디지털·영상 형태의 비물질 자료로 확대되었으며, 온라인 원격교육을 통해 뮤지엄 자료에 대한 접근성 강화와 새로운 교육의 가능성을 개발해야 하는 기회와 도전에 직면해 있다. 이러한 배경에서 본연구는 뮤지엄의 물리적 공간 밖에서 교수자와 비대면 형식으로 이루어지는 온라인 원격교육의의의와 현황, 방향을 이론적 검토와 사례 분석을 통해 탐색하였다. 온라인 원격교육 유형별로 선도적으로 운영해 온 해외 뮤지엄의 사례 분석을 바탕으로 뮤지엄 온라인 원격교육의 향후 방향을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 첫째, 뮤지엄의 온라인 원격교육은 확장된 공간에서의 새로운 역할에 대한 뮤지엄 차원의 비전이 전제되어야 한다. 둘째, 동시적/비동시적 교육 방식 각각의 특장점을 고려하여 원격교육을 설계해야 한다. 셋째, 온라인 원격교육은 비형식 학습의 자기주도성과상호작용성을 최대한 활용하는 교수-학습 설계가 가능하다. 마지막으로, 뮤지엄을 방문하여 실물자료를 면대면 학습하는 경험과의 관계를 효과적으로 설계해야 한다. 뮤지엄 온라인 원격교육은뮤지엄의 시공간적 접근성과 콘텐츠 활용도를 높이고, 학습자의 자기주도성을 강화하며, 모든 학습 참여 주체들의 상호작용과 사회적 학습을 강화할 수 있는 새로운 교육의 지향성 안에서 개발·운영될 때 뮤지엄 교육의 미래지향적 역할에 부응할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Since the mid-20th century, the museum has increased access to its collections and activities by utilizing new media and technology. In the 21st century, the concept of museum collection is also being expanded to intangible evidence in the form of digital images. Under these circumstances, the museum faces opportunities and challenges to further enhance access to museum collections and activities through online distance education and to develop new educational possibilities. In this aspect, this research presents a theoretical and empirical study of museums’ use of new media and online distance education. In particular, the research explored the meaning, status and direction of online distance education through a study of online content created by museums that provides non face-to-face education outside of the museum’s physical space. This study implemented a case study of overseas museums that have been leading the operation of various types of online distance education. Based on this analysis, the following recommendations for the future direction of museum online distance education are suggested : First, a clear vision for their new role in an expanded space should be a precondition for a museum’s creation of online distance education programs. Second, distance education should be designed by considering the features of each synchronous/asynchronous teaching method. Third, distance education is capable of designing teaching and learning to make the most of the self-directedness and interactivity of informal learning. Finally, there is a need to design an effective relationship with the experience of face-to-face learning for visitors when they visit the museum in person. Museum online distance education will be able to live up to the future-oriented role of museum education when developed and operated within a new educational orientation that can enhance the time-space access and content utilization of the museum, the learners self-directedness, and the interaction and social learning.
