영문 초록

Objectives: This study analyzes the changing patterns in weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), obesity, lean body mass, soft lean mass and total body water during each trimester of pregnancy for appropriate weight gain and nutrition consultation. Method: Repeated measures were taken for a range of body compositions among 58 pregnant women residing in G city. The three stages of pregnancy were divided into 17-22 weeks, 23-28 weeks and 29-34 weeks. The measuring system used was In Body 3.0 (Biospace Co., Ltd) and data was gathered from February 15th, 2002 to August 6th, 2002. Results: Underweight women in the early stages of pregnancy experienced sudden weight gain. In contrast, overweight women experienced less weight gain during the same time period. There was almost no change in percentage of fat in the abdominal area when comparing pregnant women to women who were not pregnant. However, the amount of body fat increased a little for pregnant women and there were significant increases for soft lean mass and lean body mass. Conclusions: Further research is needed for the development of a weight maintenance program for pregnant women. More than the changes in weight gain, body fat and percentage of fat in the abdominal area, the kind of maintenance program can induce increases in lean body mass and soft lean mass.
