혁신학교의 교육효과 분석: 경기도 혁신학교의 계층 간 학력격차를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 경기교육종단연구(GEPS) 1~4차년도(2012~2015)의 자료를 활용하여, 경기도 혁신학교가 계층 간 학력격차를 줄이는데 유의미한 효과가 있는지를 확인하기 위해 하이브리드모형(hybrid model)을 적용하여 분석하였다. 우선, 가정의 사회경제적 배경이 학업성취도에 강한 정적 영향을 주는 가운데, 혁신학교는 학업성취도에 양의 추정값을 나타내나 통계적으로 유의미하지는 않았다. 그러나, 부의 학력, 가정의 월평균소득 각각의 변수와 혁신학교의 상호작용효과를 분석한 결과, 경기도 혁신학교가 부의 학력에 따른 학생 간 국・영・수 평균과 영어점수의 격차를 유의미하게 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 가정의 월평균소득과 혁신학교의 상호작용효과는 유의미하지 않았다. 또한, 초등학교 3년 동안 일반학교에 재학했던 학생과 혁신학교에 재학했던 학생을 대상으로 부의 학력별 학업성취도의 변화추이를 살펴본 결과, 부의 학력이 높은 학생의 성적의 변화추이는 일반학교와 혁신학교가 비슷하게 나타났다. 그러나, 1차년도에는 부의 학력이 낮은 학생의 성적이 일반학교에 비해 혁신학교에서 더 낮은 편이었으나, 학년이 올라갈수록 혁신학교의 학업성취도의 증가폭이 커지는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 부의 학력별 학생 간 영어와 국・영・수 평균점수의 격차를 혁신학교가 감소시키며, 이는 부의 학력이 낮은 학생의 성적을 향상시킴으로써 그 차이를 줄이고 있음을 확인하였다. 이로써 경기도 혁신학교가 공교육 내실화 모델로서 계층 간 학력격차를 유의미하게 감소시키는데 기여하였다는 점에서 시사점을 지닌다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the innovative pilot school has a significant effect on reducing the students’ achivement gap among the elderly by using the data from the 1st to 4th year of the GEPS (2012 ~ 2015). First of all, negative income and family income per month, which is a socio-economic background of family, have a strong influence on academic achievement. Innovative pilot schools showed positive estimates on academic achievement but not statistically significant. In addition, the results of analysis of the effects of the negative educational attainment, the monthly average income of the family, and the interaction effect of the innovative pilot school showed that the innovative pilot school significantly decreased the gap between the national average and the English score according to the educational background. In the first year, however, the students with lower educational backgrounds showed lower scores in the innovative pilot schools than in the general schools, but it was found that the increase in the academic achievement of the innovative pilot schools increased as the grade increased. This shows that the innovative pilot schools reduce the gap between English and national average scores among the students with different educational backgrounds and that this difference is reduced by improving the students This suggests that the innovative pilot school contributed to the significant reduction of the students’achivement gap among the classes as a normal model of public schooling
