부모의 심리적 통제가 대학생의 타인과 연인 간 갈등해결전략에 미치는 영향: 자기조절능력의 매개효과

국문 초록

본 연구는 부모의 심리적 통제가 대학생의 타인과 연인 간 갈등해결전략에 미치는 영향을 자기조절능력이 매개하는지 검증하였다. 또한 대학생이 타인과 연인에 따라 주로 사용하는 갈등해결전략이 차이를 보이는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 대학생 174명을 대상으로 대응표본 t검정, 상관관계분석 및 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 주요 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 대학생은 갈등해결전략 중 회피, 지배, 그리고 타협 전략을 연인보다 타인 간 관계에서 더 많이 사용하였다. 둘째, 아버지와 어머니의 심리적 통제를 더 지각할수록 대학생은 낮은 자기조절능력을 보였다. 셋째, 아버지의 심리적 통제는 타인-지배, 연인-회피, 연인-지배와 같은 부정적 전략과 연인-타협, 연인-통합과 같은 긍정적 전략 모두와 관련이 있었지만, 어머니의 심리적 통제는 타인과 연인 간 회피와 지배와 같은 부정적 전략과만 관련이 있었다. 넷째, 자기조절능력의 경우, 타인 간 회피와 양보, 연인 간 회피와 지배와 부적 상관을 보였으며, 타인 간 통합, 연인 간 타협과 통합과 정적 상관을 나타냈다. 마지막으로, 자기조절능력은 아버지의 심리적 통제가 연인 간 회피, 타협/통합 전략에 미치는 영향과 어머니의 심리적 통제가 타인, 연인 간 회피 전략에 미치는 영향을 완전매개 하였다. 이러한 결과는 아버지와 어머니의 심리적 통제가 대학생의 갈등 대상에 따른 갈등해결전략 사용에 다른 영향을 미치며, 이 과정에서 자기조절능력이 중요한 역할을 담당함을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study examined the mediating effect of self-regulating ability on the relationship between parental psychological control and undergraduates’ conflict regulation strategies in interpersonal and romantic relationships. In addition, differences in the conflict resolution strategies used in interpersonal and romantic relationships were examined. Participants included 174 undergraduates living in Seoul, Daegu, and Jeonbuk. Data were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests, correlations, and regressions. Significant differences were observed in the use of avoiding, dominating, and compromising strategies in interpersonal and romantic relationships. Paternal psychological control was significantly related to undergraduates’ self-regulating abilities and to their use of interpersonal-dominating, avoiding, dominating, compromising, and integrating in romantic relationships. Maternal psychological control was significantly related to the use of avoiding and dominating in interpersonal and romantic relationships. Further, participants’ self-regulating ability was negatively related to their use of interpersonal-avoiding, interpersonal-obliging, and interpersonal-integrating, and it was positively related to their use of compromising and integrating in romantic relationships. Finally, self-regulation mediated the relationship between paternal psychological control and the use of couple-avoiding, couple-compromising/ integrating; and between maternal psychological control and the use of avoiding in interpersonal and romantic relationships. These findings suggest that self-regulation may play an important role in the relationship between parental psychological control and undergraduate students’ conflict resolution strategies.
