들뢰즈-과타리의 얼굴 개념

국문 초록

이 글은 들뢰즈-과타리의 얼굴 개념이 근대의 개인-주체 개념을 비판적으로 분석하여 재정의한 개념이라는 것을 논하고자 한다. 개념으로서의 얼굴은 우리가 비개인성의 철학 이라 부를 수 있는 들뢰즈의 전복적 철학의 기획을 따른다. 개인-주체 개념은 고대 그리스와 로마에서 각각 연극과 제례에서 쓰이는 가면을 뜻했던 어원(프로소폰과 페르소나)으로부터 출발하여 근대의 인간의 개체화의 원리인 영혼에 대한 논쟁을 통과하면서, 한 사람의 동일성에 대한 외재적 인식의 대상인 얼굴 또는 앞모습과, 내재적 인식의 대상인 자아-나로 완성된 전통 형이상학의 대주제라고 할 수 있다. 들뢰즈-과타리는 영혼-육체, 사유-연장이라는 근대적 이분법 대신에, 표현과 내용 및 각 항에 속한 실체와 형식이라는 4중의 항으로 인간의 특질들을 분류하며, 그 중에서 얼굴-언어를 표현의 항의 실체와 형식으로서 제시한다. 얼굴은 의미생성과 주체화를 각각 핵심으로 하는 두 기호계가 결합된 체계이자 인간 지층에 고유한 추상 기계로서, 전제군주적이고 권위적인 권력의 배치물들과 함께 작동하고 사회에서 통용되는 질서(명령어)를 주입함으로써 외적-내적으로 이중구속된 개인-주체, 즉 구체적인 얼굴들을 생산한다. 궁극적으로, 들뢰즈-과타리의 비개인성의 철학은 얼굴 개념을 통해 인간의 자유에 대한 문제에로 향하며 얼굴의 해체와 그것을 위한 전략적 사유를 낳는다.

영문 초록

This article aimes to argue that the Deleuze-Guattari s concept of Face (Visage/Visagéité) analyzes critically and redefines the modern concept of Subject-Person. The Face functioning as a concept follows Deleuze s reversal project on philosophy which we can call a philosophy of Impersonal . Starting from two etymological terms (prosopon/persona) which mean the mask used at the theather or the ritual in Ancient Greece and Rome and passing through the long debates on the human soul as the principe of individuation, the concept of Subject-Person becomes the grand theme of the traditional metaphysics in two sides : the one is the Face or façade as the object of extrinsic (re)cognition on one person, and the other is the Self/Me or I for intrinsic cognition. Without using dichotomical Soul-Body or Thought-Extension, Deleuze-Guattari categorizes human properties in the quadriple terms : Expression and Content, and for each term Substance and Form. They suggest the Face-Langage as the Substance and Forme of Expression. For the two philosophers, the Face is the abstract machine proper to the human stratum as the system (white wall-black hole) constituted by the composition of two different semiotics. Regarding meaning generation and subjectivation as the core fonctions of them, the abstract machine of Face produces the extrinsically and insirinsically double-subjugated subject-persons, concret faces by collaborating with dispotic and authoritarian assemblages of power and interfusing the current social oders (commands). Ultimately, the Deleuze-Guattari s philosophy of Impersonal, on the basis of this concept of Face, proceeds to the problem of Freedom of Human Being and gives rise to the destruction of the Face and strategic thoughts for it.
