학생들은 사이버에서 무엇을 배우는가? 언어사용과 대중문화수용 과정을 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 학교를 이해하기 위해서는 학생을, 학생을 이해하기 위해서는 학생이 몸담은 문 화를 이해하는 것이 필요하다는 인식에서 출발하며, 이런 문화의 일환으로서 사이버공간의 특 성을 밝히고자 한다. 이 연구에서는 사이버 언어와 사이버에서의 대중문화 수용방식에 대한 검 토를 통해, 중등학생들이 학교의 문화와 차별적인 문화적 코드를 사이버 상에서 획득함을 밝힌 다. 사이버에서 학생들은, 익명성과 개방성 속에서 비교적 장애 없이 자신을 표현하는 ‘자유로 운 표현의 문화’에 익숙해지고, 대중문화를 자신의 방식대로 규정하고 수용하며 상상을 발전시 키는 ‘개별적 전유의 문화’를 체험하며, 집단적 정체성과 공동의 규율창출까지 나아가는 ‘연대 의 문화’ 속에서 학교와는 다른 연대의 방식을 습득한다. 이런 문화는 각각, ‘생각중지’, ‘소외 감’, ‘제한된 연대’라는 한계와 결합되어 있으며, 그런 점에서 그 다양성과 역동성이 학교장면에 서 어떻게 작동하는지에 대한 후속 연구를 필요로 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to articulate middle school students' culture in cyberspace which expands the horizen of educational sociological understanding of school. To get a good stock of materials to reveal the natural process of students' virtual life, a popular adolescent website was selected for participant observation. Through the analysis of students' communication style and virtual life about mass culture, this study compared the code which student gain at school culture with that in the cyberspace. In cyberspace, due to the anonymity and openness of the computer-mediated-communication, students communicated with each other without social clue such as status or appearance. Considering patriarchical and hierarchical attributes which students gained at school, students in cyberspace had chance to escape from the oppressive culture of competition for university entrance examination. They did not have to withhold their own expression but expressed by way of their ideas or interests. Some students who eager to meet movie star or singing star constructed webpage for their stars. Fan page not only offers some documents but also endows students with space to write novel, named fan-fic(fan-fiction). Writing their desire into the fan-fic, they made stars appropriated in their own way and feel mutual sympathy. They oscillated between extreme individuation and exclusive solidarity through the activity in virtual mass culture. As a result, student in cyberspace develop their own taste and thought which conflicts with student-identity in school. Similar accounts are needed to highlight the students' identities for the better understanding about school.
