국문 초록

이 글은 용서와 화해를 관계성 안에서 살펴본다. 모종의 사건에 대해서 용서와 화해 여부에 따라 관계가 유지·확장되기도 하고 단절되기도 한다. 관계성의 붕괴는 곧장 생명력의 붕괴로 이어지기 때문에 이 문제는 매우 중요하다. 관계적 맥락에서 용서와 화해가 갖는 함의는 크게 세 가지라고 생각한다. 첫째, 용서하지못하면 화해는 성립되지 않는다. 이때 양자 사이의 관계는 단절되고 생명력도 거기서 끝난다. 둘째, 용서는 했지만, 화해로 발전하지 않으면 관계성은 회복되지 않는다. 따라서 그 사이에서 생명력은 창출될 수 없다. 셋째, 용서가 선행되고 화해로 이행되면 관계성이 회복되고, 새로운 생명력이 무한히 꽃필 수 있다. 그런데 세상 에는 용서할 수 있는 일과 용서할 수 없는 일이 있고, 용서해서는 안 되는 일도 있다. 이 글에서는 그 기준은 무엇이며 그런 권리가 우리에게 있는지에 대해서 몇 가지 사례를 통해 용서와 불용의 근거와 결과에 대해서 살펴본다. 그 결과, 다음 사실을 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 우선 진정한 용서와 화해는 인간의 자기 해방, 자기 구원과 관련된다는 것이다. 그리고 그것은 깨달음이 전제될 때 가능하다는 것이다.

영문 초록

This article examines forgiveness and reconciliation within the context of relationships and how they impact three different statuses of relationships: maintained, expanded and halted. I argue that these statuses are dependent on forgiveness and reconciliation of certain events, as the breakdown of the relationship directly leads to the collapse of the relational vitality (“vitality”). The implications of forgiveness and reconciliation in the relational context can be broken down into three. Firstly, reconciliation can not be achieved without forgiveness. In this case, when the relationship between two parties is halted, vitality is coming to an end. Secondly, although forgiveness has been granted, relationships can not be necessarily restored unless reconciliation is accompanied. As a result, no vitality can be created between the parties in this case either. Thirdly and finally, if forgiveness is followed by reconciliation, relationships can be restored, and new vitality can bloom indefinitely. There are clear boundaries between what we can and cannot forgive, as well as what we must not forgive. In this article, we will look at the rationales and consequences of forgiveness and inadmissibility, and take a close look at a few examples of the former and the latter as to what the criteria are and what rights we are entitled to. As a result, the following can be concluded: true forgiveness and reconciliation are strongly dependent on self-liberation and self-salvation of human beings, all of which becomes possible when there is acknowledgement.
