중학생의 학습동기가 학업성적과 범교과학습역량에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중학생들의 학습동기가 현재 학교에서 인지적 영역의 평가에 주로 초점을 둔 ‘학업성적’에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 보는 한편, 인지적 영역과 정의적 영역을 모두 포괄하 면서 평생학습역량을 보는 ‘범교과학습역량’에 미치는 영향을 비교하여 살펴봄으로써 교육역량 강화의 시사점을 얻는데 있다. 이를 위해 2013년 경기도 3개 지역 69개 중학교 학생 4,541명을 대상으로 구조방정식모형을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, ‘주의집중’, ‘통제동기’, ‘통제기대’는 학업성적과 범교과학습역량을 모두 유의하게 향상시키는 학습동기이며 배움에 대한 효능감 기 대인 ‘통제기대’는 특히 범교과학습역량에 강한 영향을 미치는 변인이었다. 낮은 자기결정성을 갖는 외재적 동기이자 남과의 비교와 외부보상에 초점을 두는 학습동기인 ‘수행접근목표지향’은 학생들의 학업성적을 유의하게 향상시키지만 범교과학습역량을 유의하게 약화시키는 것으로 드 러났다. 학교에서의 성공과 실패를 운에 귀인하는 수단목표신념(운)은 학업성적과 범교과학습역 량을 모두 하락시키는 요인으로, 포기성향은 학업성적을 유의하게 하락시키는 요인으로 나타났 다. 본 연구결과는 자기효능감을 기초로 한 학생들의 자아신념이 학업상황에서 매우 중요한 요 소이며 경쟁중심의 학습동기는 장기적인 배움역량을 약화시킬 수 있음을 보여 주었다. 본 연구 결과는 끊임없는 변화와 기술혁신이 이루어지고 있는 시대에서 학생들의 지속적인 배움역량을 강화하기 위해서는 낮은 자기결정성을 갖는 수행접근목표지향의 교육에 변화가 필요하다는 점 을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine and compare the effects of middle school students’ learning motivation on the academic records, which assess students’ cognitive ability measured by school level tests, and the cross-curricular competence which includes both the assessment of students’ affective domain and cognitive one as the lifelong learning competency. We analyzed 4,541 students from 69 middle schools in the three districts of Gyeonggi province in Korea during 2013 using structural equation model. The results are following: First, fundamental to the significant improvement of the academic records and the cross-curricular competence are the attention ability, the control motivation, and the control expectancy. Especially, the control expectancy, which is self-efficacy expectancy to the learning, had strong effect on the cross-curricular competence. Second, the performance-approach goal orientation, which is extrinsic motivation characterized by low self-determination, comparing to the others and external rewards, significantly improves the academic records, but has statistically significant negative effects on the cross-curricular competence. Third, the means and beliefs(luck), which attribute academical success and failure to luck, decrease both of the academic records and the cross-curricular competence significantly, while proclivity to give in decreases the former only. These results indicate that self-efficacy based self-related belief is an important factor in learning, and records and rewards centered learning motivation debilitates lifelong learning competence. In the world of continuous technological innovation, current education practices which is based on the performance- approach goal orientation should move to more learning-approach goal for the students’ sustainable learning competency.
