경상도지역 조선시대 자기가마의 구조변화 연구

국문 초록

자기가마의 구조연구는 선학들에 의해 많은 진전이 있었지만, 변화양상 파악에만 중점이 맞춰졌고 변화의 요인이나 체계화된 형식을 설정하는 데에는 미흡한 점이 있었다. 따라서 본 논고는 최근 활발하게 조사가 이루어진 경상도지역 자기가마의 구조변화를 파악하고 그 흐름을 살펴보는 것에 목적을 두었다. 본고에서는 가마의 구조를 입지, 축조형태, 축조재료, 요전시설, 아궁이, 연소실 평면형태, 연소실 불턱, 가마의 규모, 번조실의 평면형태와 단면형태, 번조실 바닥의 마감방법, 초벌구이칸, 측면 출입구와 폐기장, 연도부, 천장, 가마의 보수와 개축 등으로 해체하여 각각의 양상을 파악한 후 시간성을 가지는 요소를 선별하여 변화양상과 변화요인을 파악하였다. 이를 토대로 조선시대 경상도지역 요업의 흐름을 5단계로 나누었는데, Ⅰ단계는 14세기 후반(1/4)~15세기 중반(2/4)이며 AⅠ1식 가마들이 운영되었다. Ⅱ단계는 15세기 중반(3/4)~15세기 후반(4/4)이며 AⅠ1식, AⅡ2식, BⅠ1식, BⅠ2식 가마들이 운영되었다. Ⅱ단계는 본격적인 분청사기 생산이 이루어지던 시기로 가마의 운영 성격에 따라 구조상으로도 차이가 확인된다. Ⅲ단계는 15세기 후반(4/4)~16세기 후반(4/4)이며 BⅠ2식, BⅡ1식, BⅡ2식, BⅢ2식의 가마들이 운영되었다. 관요 성립 이후 지방에서 백자 가마들이 운영되기 시작하던 시기부터, 양난이 발발하여 경상도뿐만 아니라 전국의 요업이 큰 타격을 받게 되는 시기까지이다. 이 시기는 분청사기에서 백자로 주된 생산품이 전환되는데, 급작스런 번조환경의 변화로 인해 불기둥이 적극적으로 수용되며 가마의 규모나 연소실·번조실의 평면형태 등에서 많은 변화가 나타나는 시기이기도 하다. Ⅳ단계는 17세기 전반(1/4)~18세기 중반(2/4)이며 CⅢ2식, CⅢ3식, CⅣ1식, CⅣ2식의 가마들이 운영되었다. 양난 이후 요업이 다시 안정을 회복하던 시기이며 이후 백자의 본격적인 대량생산화가 이루어지기도 한다. Ⅳ단계 가마 구조의 가장 큰 특징은 격벽시설에 의한 불창기둥이 도입되면서 단실요→분실요로의 변화가 이루어졌다는 점이다. 이는 열효율을 획기적으로 향상시켜 백자 대량생산체제의 기술적인 바탕이 되었다. Ⅴ단계는 18세기 후반(4/4)~20세기 전반(1/4)이며 CⅣ4식 가마들이 운영되었다. 경상도지역에서 조사된 Ⅴ단계의 가마는 19세기 후반~20세기 전반에 운영된 하동 서황리 요지가 유일해 정확한 양상을 파악하기는 힘들다. 가마구조는 가마의 전체형태가 역제형으로 바뀌고 불창기둥의 개수가 증가해 연실요의 형태로 변화한다.

영문 초록

The porcelain kiln operated in Chosun Dynasty was horizontal draft type or half down draft type incline kiln. It was inherited from the porcelain kiln of Koryo Dynasty. Considering the process from an installation to burnability, the attribution of the porcelain kiln is classified into the location, construct form, construct material, pre-kiln facilities, entrance of firing place, elevation shape of a firing place, firing place stair, kiln size, elevation shape and aspect shape of a combustion chamber, finishing method of a combustion chamber floor, inside facilities of a combustion chamber, biscuit firing chamber, side entrance and disuse place, chimney, ceiling, repair and reconstruction of a kiln, burnability method and kiln tools. From among these, elevation shape of a firing place, height of firing place stair of a firing place, kiln size, elevation shape and aspect shape of a combustion chamber, inside facilities of a combustion chamber, biscuit firing chamber, burnability method and kiln tools are attributions which show specific change as time passed. Analyzing these, the porcelain kiln of Gyeongsang Province is divided into 12 types from the 15th to the 19th century. To sum up, the ceramic industry of Chosun Dynasty in Gyeongsang Province is divided into 5 phases totally. The first phase corresponds from the first quarter of the 14th century to the second quarter of the 15th century. The AⅠ1 type kiln was operated. The second phase corresponds from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of the 15th century. The AⅠ1, AⅡ2, BⅠ1, BⅠ2 type kiln was operated. The third phase corresponds from the fourth quarter of the 15th century to the fourth quarter of the 16th century. The BⅠ2, BⅡ1, BⅡ2, BⅢ2 type kiln was operated. As grayish-blue-powdered celadon product changes to white porcelain product, various changes appear in the structure of kiln. The fourth phase corresponds from the first quarter of the 17th century to the second quarter of the 18th century. The CⅢ2, CⅢ3, CⅣ1, CⅣ2 type kiln was operated. The fifth phase corresponds from the fourth quarter of the 18th century to the first quarter of the 20th century. The CⅣ4 type kiln was operated.
