청동기시대 전기 마성자문화요소의 한반도 유입 일 양상

국문 초록

본 글은 중국 동북지역 태자하유역 마성자문화의 문물요소가 경남 남강~해안지역으로 직접 유입되었다고 하는 청동기시대 한반도 문물유입의 일 양상을 다룬 것이다. 양 지역의 관련성에 대해서는 이미 채문호를 통해 인정되어 왔지만, 마성자문화에서의 채문호의 부족, 다른 관련 문물의 부재, 양 지역 간의 거리 등의 문제 때문에 해석이 쉽지 않았다. 이에 본 글은 먼저 양 지역의 관련성을 보다 구체화시켜 줄 수 있는 새로운 자료로서 채문호 신자료, 頸部와 肩部 사이에 일주하는 횡침선문 평저장경호, 내경구연단의 이중구연완, 토광묘를 기본으로 하는 전기무덤 등을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 청동기시대 전기전반말~전기후반의 경계시기(BC 1000~900년 전후)에 태자하유역으로부터 경남지역으로 마성자문화요소가 유입되어 확산된 것으로 보았다. 그런데 이들 자료는 현재까지 한반도 다른 지역에서는 확인되지 않는 것이어서 태자하유역에서 직접적으로 유입되었다고 생각하며, 거리상 사람의 이동을 전제하지 않고서는 이해하기 어렵다고 보았다. 하지만 기원지의 문물요소 중 일부의 요소만 유입되었고, 출현시기부터 한반도화를 거치고 있으며, 의례적 요소로 융합되고 있는 것에서 재지민에 의한 수용으로 파악하였다. 이러한 원거리 문물이동의 배경은 밝히기 어렵지만, 분명한 것은 이 시기를 전후하여 한반도와 중국 동북지역 전체에서 고고학적 변화가 간취된다는 점이다. 이는 중국 동북지역과 한반도 전체에 영향을 미칠 만한 무언가의 큰 동인이 있었음을 짐작케 하며, 그러한 배경 속에서 태자하유역의 문물요소가 한반도로 유입되었던 것으로 보았다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to examine the nature of the inflow of cultural elements into the Korean Peninsula during the Bronze Age, namely the introduction of elements from the Machengzi Culture of the Taizi River basin, located in the northeastern area of China, to the Nam River and coastal areas of the Gyeongnam region in Korea. Although connections between both regions have been recognized through pottery decorated with broad flower petal designs, interpretation has not been easy due to the sparse findings of excavated examples of this pottery in the Machengzi Culture sphere, in addition to the absence of other related cultural factors and the distance between the two regions. This paper presents new archaeological material in order to establish connections between the two regions. The new material comprises new findings of pottery with broad flower petal design, pottery which has a single or double cross patterns decorating the area in between the vessel neck and shoulder, double-rimmed bowls with an inner gallery, and tombs dating to the early part of the Bronze Age which were based on pit burials, all of which have been confirmed in the upper reaches of the Taizi River. These elements are not only commonly found in both regions, they also appear exclusively in these two regions. Based on these facts, it is established that the cultural elements of the Machengzi Culture, which came from the Taizi River basin, were introduced into the Gyeongnam region from the end of the first half of the Early Bronze Age to the latter part of the Early Bronze Age (around 1000 BCE). Because these materials are not found in any of the other regions of the Korean Peninsula, they are seen to have come from the Taizi River basin into the Nam River basin. This movement of cultural factors is difficult to understand without assuming the movement of people. Consequently, it can be assumed that the culture inflow from the Taizi River basin directly and unilaterally affected the Gyeongnam region at the time. Only some of the cultural elements of the Machengzi Culture were brought into from the area of origin, and they are considered to have been fused into the unique local culture as phatic factors. The reasons behind such an event of long distance migration is a difficult issue to deal with specifically but a huge change can be identified as having taken place in the Korean Peninsula and the northeastern area of China at the time. This can be seen to imply that a great impetus for change was present at the time throughout the entire area spanning from China to the Korean Peninsula.
