시김새를 통한 ‘한국적’ 한국가곡의 연주방법 모색

국문 초록

본 연구는 우리가 즐겨 부르는 애창한국가곡이 한국가곡이 아니라는 지적으로부터 출발한다. 본 연구에서 가장 중요하게 다루어지는 두 가지 질문은 <무엇이 ‘한국적’ 한국가곡인가?>와 <어떻게 해야 ‘한국적’인 맛이 나도록 연주 할 수 있을까?> 이다. 따라서 이 두 질문에 대한 대답 찾기가 본 연구의 방향이자 최종 목표이다. 첫 번째 질문에서 질문의 키워드인 ‘한국적’ 이라는 형용사가 함축하는 의미가 무엇인가에 대한 대답은 동시에 <무엇이 ‘한국적’ 한국가곡인가?>라는 질문에 대한 대답이 되기도 할 것이다. ‘한국적’ 한국가곡이 되려면 ‘한국말 가사와 서양의 장단음계가 아닌 우리의 선법인 평조나 계면조에 바탕을 두어야 하고, 미터가 아닌 전통장단, 선율적 속성, 전통음계, 시김새, 말의 장단, 강약, 억양 등이 살아있어야 한다는 것이다. 이럴 때 우리는 그 가곡을 ’한국적‘ 한국가곡이라고 할 수 있다는 것이다. 두 번째 질문은 <어떻게 해야 ‘한국적’인 맛이 나도록 한국가곡을 연주 할 수 있을까?>인데 이 대답의 중심어는 ‘시김새’이다. ‘시김새’의 사상적 근거는 동양의 음양사상이고 율려사상이다. ‘율’이 일종의 눈금이라면 ‘려’는 눈금과 눈금 사이이자 그 공간을 말한다. 음악으로 말하자면 음도 중요하지만 음 사이와 그 공간도 동등하게 중요하다는 것이다. 그리고 이 공간은 음과 더불어 동일하게 살아 움직여야 하는 공간인 것이다. 따라서 ‘시김새’란 음과 음 사이를 음과 더불어 만들어 나아가는 방향과 모양이기도 하고 꾸며가는 과정이고 이 모든 움직임에서 만들어진 결과들을 포함하여 ‘시김새’라고 하는 것이다. 끝으로 본 연구의 최종 목표인 <‘한국적’ 한국가곡 어떻게 연주할 것인가?>에 대한 하나의 실질적인 대안은 한국가곡에 ‘시김새’를 적용하자는 것이다. ‘시김새’가 한국전통 음악 연주에서 가장 ‘한국적 맛’을 내는 특징적 요소이므로, 한국가곡에서 시김새를 잘 활용하여 연주한다는 것은 곧 한국가곡을 한국적인 맛깔이 나게 연주한다는 것을 뜻한다고 할 수 있기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This research started from pointing out that well-known Korean art songs were not true Korean songs. In this reseach two questions, and , will be the most considered questions. Accordingly, the main direction and final goal of this paper is to find right answers for these questions. The answer to this first question, , will be a good answer to the question, The result from the research above shows that, to be a koreanish Korean art song, such songs should be based on Korean text, Korea s traditional scale; Pyungjo and Gyemyunjo instead of a western major-minor scale, traditional rhythmic pattern called Jangdan instead meter, traditional melodic character, a pentatonic scale, Shighimse, making alive of long and short vowels, the strong and the weak and intonation of word. According to the result of this study, the songs with such characteristics can be named as a koreanish art song. The second question is . The answer to that question lies in Shighimse. The philosophical ground of Shighimse lies in the oriental thought, yin and yang; negative and positive and the thought of Yoollyeo . Yool is interpreted as a scale, lyeo is the space and distance between two scales. Following the Yoollyeo , the note itself is important, but the distance or space between the notes are also as equally important. Such thought states that the blank between two scales should always be alive as well as note itself. Shighimse can also be a decorating process of the distance or space between notes and moving direction or shape. On the one hand, Shighimse also indicates all the outcomes made by all those moving and decoration. This is the concept of Shighimse In conclusion, this study is aimed at . As one of practical way I proposed to apply Shighimse to koreanish Korean art songs. Those work, I believe, could cause meaningful changes in the performance of koreanish art songs. Because the Shighimse is the most specific and effective features in Korean traditional music, but it contains also Korean vocalization, expression and above all Korean s emotion in it. To sing a koreanish Korean art-song with Shighimse can be said to sing a song with the most koreanish way and taste.
