음악교육에서의 테크놀로지 활용의 역사적 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 지난 약 100년간 음악교육에 있어서 테크놀로지 활용의 흐름이 어떻게 변화되어 왔는지를 역사적으로 고찰하는데 있다. 이를 위해 1914년부터 2014년까지 MEJ에 게재된 총 399개의 테크놀로지 관련 문헌자료를 연구대상으로 삼았다. 자료들을 분석하기 위해 먼저 테크놀로지를 크게 매체와 기기로 분류하고, 이를 각각 아날로그, 디지털, 뉴미디어로 범주화하였다. 음악교수학습활동은 가창, 기악, 감상, 창작, 시창/청음, 개념 이해로 범주화하여 분석하였다. 자료의 분류 기준 및 범주의 설정 후에는 음악교육에서 테크놀로지 도입의 연대별 역사, 음악교육에 활용된 주요 테크놀로지의 변천, 음악교수학습활동별 테크놀로지 활용의 추이를 각각 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 1900년대 초기에 축음기, 1940-50년대에 필름, 1970-80년대에 비디오카세트 테이프, 1980년대에는 미디와 마이크로컴퓨터, 1990년대에 멀티미디어, 그리고 2000년대의 뉴미디어와 같이 당대의 가장 혁신적인 테크놀로지가 음악교육 분야에 도입되고 활발하게 활용되어 왔다는 점이 발견되었다. 둘째, 1900-40년대에 감상영역에서의 활용으로부터, 1950-60년대에는 가창, 1960-70년대에는 시창/청음 및 개념 이해로 테크놀로지 활용의 분야가 확장되었고, 1980년부터는 음악교육의 전 분야에 활용되고 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the historical developments of technology in music education for the past 100 years. For this purpose, a total of 399 technology related materials published in Music Educators Journal(MEJ) from 1914 to 2014 were used to analyze. MEJ, a reliable source, was first published in 1914 and issued quarterly. The journal offers timely articles on teaching approaches and philosophies, current trends and issues in music education and the latest products and services. In order to analyze these sources, the criteria for classification was determined as follows. Technology was classified into media and device, and these classifications were categorized into analog, digital and new media respectively. The category for music teaching and learning was divided into six activities such as singing. playing, listening, creating, sight-singing/ear-training, and understanding music concept. The study was analyzed the chronicle of technology introduction in music education, changes of technology frequently used in music education, and trends in utilizing technology for music teaching and learning. As a result of the analysis, the most substantial changes are summarized as follows. First, innovative technologies of the day have been introduced and utilized in the music education field: phonographs in the early 1900s, films in the 1940s and the 1950s, videocassette tapes in the 1970s and the 1980s, MIDI and microcomputer in the 1980s, multimedia in the 1990s and new media in the 2000s. Second, technology was mainly used in listening in the early 1900s, introduced in singing in the 1950s and the 1960s, and extended to sight-singing/ear-training and understanding music concept in the 1960s and the 1970s. From the 1980s up to now, technology has been utilized in the whole field of music education.
