영문 초록

Dexamethasone suppression test (DST) was performed on inpatients of Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital, Catholic University Medical College from March 1，1983 to May 31，1986 and 13 DST non-suppressors and 17 DST suppressors were chosen optionally from those diagnosed as major depression. DST non-suppressors and suppressors were compared of their clinical features, differences in the diagnostic criteria and treatment outcome. Eighteen clinical features were selected from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 3rd ed. (DSM-III), Research Diagnostic Criteria (RDC), Newcastle Endogenous Depression Diagnostic Index (NEDDI), Michigan Discriminant Index (MDI) and Hamilton Endogenomorphic Subscale (HES), which are diagnostic criterias of endogenous depression. Relative correlations of above 5 diagnostic criteria and DST non-suppressor were compared. GAS score and duration of hospital stay were used to compare treatment outcome of nonsuppressor and suppressor groups. 1) Among the 18 clinical features, no specific clinical feature was related to DST nonsuppressors. 2) The relationships between DST nonsuppressors and the diagnosis of endogenous depression by each 5 diagnostic criteria DSMIII， RDC, NEDDI, MDI, HES were compared. No single diagnostic criteria of endogenous depression could be said to be related with DST non-suppressors. 3) The abilities of DST in predicting the severity of depression and treatment outcome were evaluated with Global Assessment Scale and duration of hospital stay but was not statistically significant.
