영문 초록

For the study of coping strategy of the family members of psychiatric patients, the Ways of Coping was administered to 50 individuals of the family members of psychiatric patients and 70 individuals of control group. The instrument is a 30-item questionnaire which measures six forms of coping: confronting, self controlling, seeking social support, accepting responsibility, escape-avoidance, planned problem-solving. The results indicated that the parents of psychiatric patients used self controlling and accepting responsibility more commonly than other members of family. There were no differences in their use of coping strategies according to types of psychiatric illnesses of patients. Self controlling was more commonly used by the family members of psychiatric patient with more than 2 years of duration of illness.
