국문 초록

2014년 크림반도의 합병, 돈바스 전쟁의 시작, 그리고 2022년 2월 러시아의 전면적 침공은 우크라이나 국민 정체성 변화와 형성을 가속했다. 특히 전쟁은 국가의 존재를 정당화하고 집단 정체성을 강화하는 과정으로 작용하고 있으며, 우크라이나 사회에서 ‘위협의식’을 조성해 집단 정체성을 형성하고 ‘공동의 타자’를 만드는 체계적 과정을 촉진했다. 본 연구는 우크라이나에 도래한 위기가 어떻게 우크라이나인들을 단결시키고 러시아를 공동의 타자로 만들며 집단 정체성을 형성해 나가는지 분석한다. 이러한 변화는 일시적인 것이 아니라, 사회가 공동의 위협에 대응하며 새로운 국민 정체성을 구축해 가는 과정으로써 유럽 통합을 위한 과정이라고 본 논문은 설명한다.

영문 초록

The annexation of Crimea, the war in Donbass in 2014, and the full-scale invasion by Russia in February 2022 accelerated the transformation and formation of Ukrainian national identity. In particular, this war created a sense of ‘threat’ in Ukrainian society, formed a collective identity, and promoted the process of making Russia a common other and enemy for Ukraine. The war waged by Russia since 2014 has rather given Ukrainians a sense of civic belonging and national pride, and a sense of responsibility for national defense and national solidarity. In addition, these wars have broadly strengthened not only ‘anti-Russianism’, a common sentiment among the majority of Ukrainians, but also support for the transition to the European model. Ultimately, this war provides Ukraine with an opportunity to carry out tasks that should have been liquidated long ago: de-Sovietization and de-Russification, resolving internal divisions, and forming a unified national identity. This is a process that Ukraine must go through in order to integrate into Europe.
