국문 초록

This study aims to explore the impact of multimedia, specifically the film I Feel Pretty (Silverstein, 2018), on enhancing vocabulary and improving self-image among female college students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). It explores key considerations for the effective integration of Screen English, utilizing film-based multimedia, within a school-based learning context. To this end, surveys were conducted to gather data on the perceptions of 24 female college students regarding the integration of film and multimedia tools into their language learning. Additionally, pre- and post-tests were administered to assess vocabulary improvement, and post-interviews were held to delve into their perspectives on body image, the concept of true beauty, and the cultivation of a strong self-image. The findings suggest that the incorporation of film-based multimedia contributed to a moderate improvement in students’ vocabulary acquisition. Additionally, the film’s exploration of self-confidence and body image issues led to an improvement in students’ self-image. This study offers valuable insights into multimedia use in language learning, emphasizing the potential of movies to enhance linguistic skills and self-perception, while highlighting the intersection of language learning and personal growth in education. Further research is needed, particularly in teacher development through school-based learning communities.
